
The 2024 MLB Draft has come to a close and Yarmouth-Dennis continued its dominant run of having alumni selected on Day 3. Y-D saw 25 former players get drafted over the three-day event, including seven on Tuesday.
Seventeen different teams selected at least one alum as seven clubs took two or more, including the San Francisco Giants, who took a trio of Y-D players. The Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, Washington Nationals, Miami Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Padres all took two Y-D alums.
2023 alum Nathan Archer (Bowling Green) was named the 2024 MAC Player of the Year and became the fourth overall pick in the 12th round to the Chicago White Sox. Archer had 14 hits in 24 games with Y-D in 2023 and hit 18 home runs with the Falcons this spring.
Zander Darby (UC Santa Barbara) displayed his elite plate discipline in 2023 with Y-D and registered a .404 on-base percentage. Darby totaled 141 hits and 83 RBI in three seasons with the Gauchos and was selected in the 12th round by the Giants.
Sam Brodersen (Louisiana Tech) joined Cade McGee (Texas Tech) as the second Y-D alum selected by the Cardinals when he was chosen in the 15th round. The 6-foot-1 right-hander spent a short stint with the Red Sox in 2022 and had a 3.05 ERA with 96 strikeouts in 2024.
Left-hander Gavin Bruni (Ohio State) tossed 11 innings for Y-D in 2023 and was over a strikeout per inning in each of his three seasons with the Buckeyes. Bruni was selected 500th overall to the Washington Nations in the 17th round.
The Padres picked their second Y-D alum in the 17th round with shortstop Ryan Jackson (USC). Jackson hit .293 with a .397 on-base percentage in 20 games with Y-D in 2023 before ramping up his offensive production with the Trojans to post a .868 OPS.
Infielder Gunner Gouldsmith (Sacramento State) will stay in The Golden State after being the 19th-round selection of the Oakland Athletics. Gouldsmith played in 12 games with Y-D in 2022 and was a career .311 hitter in college, which included his freshman season at Washington State.
Catcher Fernando Gonzalez (Georgia) became the third Y-D player taken by the Giants after being named their 20th-round pick. Gonzalez played 34 games across 2021 and 2022 with Y-D and hit .292 in his spring season at Georgia.
