From the Coca-Cola Roxy in Atlanta, Ga., seven former Kettleers saw their big-league dreams become a reality on Day 1 of the 2025 MLB Draft.

Charles Davalan was the first Kettleer taken off the board, heading to the Dodgers at pick No. 41.

Davalan started his collegiate career at Florida Gulf Coast, where he was a solid contributor in 2024, batting .288 with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs. After his freshman season, the outfielder took his talents to Cape Cod and played for the Cotuit Kettleers.

In 21 games, he hit a home run and drove in 11 runs while providing a solid glove in right field. Davalan was a good but not great player in his first calendar year of college ball, but nobody expected what was to come.

He transferred to Arkansas for his second and final year of college baseball and was one of the best players on a team that made the 2025 College World Series. Davalan batted .346 with 14 long balls and 60 RBIs while earning All-SEC First Team honors.

The 40s seemed to be lucky for Cotuit alumni, as Brandon Compton was selected by the Miami Marlins just five picks later.

The powerful outfielder from Arizona State was a standout with both the Sun Devils and Kettleers over the last three seasons. Compton redshirted his freshman year due to injury before taking the PAC-12 by storm in 2024.

In 52 games, he batted .354 with 15 home runs, 51 RBIs, and a 1.089 OPS while being named a Freshman All-American and the PAC-12 Freshman of the Year. Compton was extremely productive for the Kettleers, batting .331 with six homers and 30 RBIs, and was a CCBL All-Star.

In his final season with the Sun Devils, the 6’1, 225 slugger hit nine long balls with 54 RBIs.

TAYLOR

Devin Taylor quickly followed behind his former teammates, as the A’s selected the Indiana outfielder at No. 48.

Taylor was one of the best college batters over his three seasons with the Indiana Hoosiers. He was a D1Baseball Freshman All-American in 2023 and an ABCA All-American each of his final two seasons in Bloomington.

Over three years, Taylor played 169 career games with a .350/.459/.672 slash line with 54 home runs and 179 RBIs. His 54 long balls crushed an Indiana record, which previously stood at 47.

The Cincinnati, Ohio, native played for Cotuit in 2024 and was a good player, batting .296 with five long balls and 16 RBIs in 29 games.

BELYEU2

It would be nearly a 30-pick wait for former Kettleers until the next alum went off the board. Outfielder Max Belyeu was taken at pick No. 74 by the Colorado Rockies.

The Lone Star State native was a very productive player during his three seasons with the Texas Longhorns. He showed flashes of being a good player in his freshman season, where he batted .300 with two RBIs and a double in 20 at-bats.

However, 2024 was a breakout campaign for the young slugger. He slashed .329/.423/.667 with 18 home runs and 53 RBIs while being the Big 12 Player of the Year and a consensus All-American. That summer, he played 18 games for Cotuit and slugged two long balls with nine RBIs.

His junior season was cut short due to an injury, but he still had a solid year. The outfielder batted .303 with nine homers and 29 RBIs in 32 games.

EYANSON

Anthony Eyanson followed at pick No. 87, and will be close by for Kettleer fans to watch as a member of the Boston Red Sox.

The California native spent two seasons with UC San Diego before heading to Baton Rouge to play for the LSU Tigers. In his two seasons with UCSD, the right hander had a 3.71 ERA in 111.0 IP.

Eyanson started two games for the Kettleers in 2024, pitching six innings and surrendering only one home run in his time on the Cape.

After his time with Cotuit, Eyanson headed south and was a vital part of LSU’s championship rotation, posting a 12-2 record and a 3.00 ERA under Jay Johnson.

The Minnesota Twins followed in the Red Sox footsteps, selecting James Ellwanger at No. 88.

Originally drafted by the Washington Nationals in 2023, Ellwanger opted to play for Dallas Baptist for two seasons before entering his name into this year’s draft pool. In his freshman campaign, the Texas native made eight starts, posting a 6.11 ERA and striking out 23 batters over 17.2 innings of work.

As a sophomore, Ellwanger led CUSA in strikeouts (95) and was ranked eighth in the country in striekouts per nine innings (13.55). He made 16 appearances for DBU, and put in 63.1 innings of work. He held a 3.98 ERA with a 4-2 record.

Ellwanger appeared in five games for the Kettleers in 2024, posting a 2.77 ERA in 13.0 IP.

JACOBS

Ben Jacobs rounded out the night for Ketts alum at pick No. 98, when Jacobs was selected by the Detroit Tigers.

The standout pitcher from Arizona State turned into the Sun Devils’ ace as the 2024 season went on. As a sophomore, Jacobs was named to the U.S. Collegiate National Team – the 43rd player from ASU ever to accomplish that.

As a junior in Tempe, the California native posted a 4.95 ERA in 83.2 innings of work. He ended the season with a 4-4 record.

Before his time with ASU, Jacobs pitched his freshman season at UCLA. As a freshman, he appeared in seven games, striking out six batters over just five innings of work.

Jacobs had two stints on the Cape. In 2023, he appeared in one game for the Bourne Braves, surrendering three runs in 4.0 IP. He saw more time on the mound as a Kettleer, with 5.0 innings of no-run baseball across two appearances.
