After an 8-4 win over Wareham Thursday, Cotuit entered Friday’s game in a perfect spot to move upwards in the West Division. The Kettleers sat tied with Falmouth for third, and just one game back from Hyannis for second place. However, the clash with the Commodores did not go Cotuit’s way after their bats were silenced in a 4-1 loss.
Christian Aiello (Jacksonville State) was lethal in his debut outing for Falmouth and the main reason behind the Kettleers’ struggles at the plate. Despite a fastball that often failed to crack 90 miles per hour, the southpaw’s pitches evaded Cotuit bats consistently throughout his 5.1 inning shutout appearance, generating seven strikeouts. He also allowed just four hits.
On the other side of the plate, the Commodores took advantage of free passes from the Kettleers early on. Two walks from Grady Bivens (Eckerd) in the first inning set the stage for a Ben Slanker (Louisville) to barrel a single to left field and score the first run of the day.
Bivens’ cut down on the free passes the rest of his outing, only giving up one more walk and one more hit in a four inning appearance. However, a new problem emerged when the bullpen entered the game.
Hayes Melville (Oklahoma) got the call from the bullpen in the fifth inning, and was immediately met with adversity. A Fabio Peralta (Miami) double followed by a Brayden Jefferis (Michigan) single was threatening enough for Cotuit, but a slip by Jake Hanley (Georgia) and a throwing error from J.J. Moran (Stanford) allowed Peralta to score. A following single from Carter White (Mississippi State) scored another to give Falmouth a 3-0 lead.
The Kettleers tried to come back multiple times but were continuously halted at the one-yard line. They had a runner on second in both the third and fourth inning with two outs, but Falmouth’s pitchers quickly extinguished the offensive spark. The sixth inning was even more promising, with a Noah Coy (double) and a Dawson Park (LSU) walk leading off the frame. But, a fielder’s choice and a 5-4-3 double play killed the momentum.

“We have to do better offensively,” Coach Rob Cooper said. “We didn’t do enough offensively to be in that game and have to find a way to be more consistent.”
A small breakthrough came in the seventh inning, with Cotuit notching one run. Isaac Sturgess (Wake Forest) opened the inning with a walk before he advanced to second on a single from Will Plattner (Alabama). In desperate need for a run, Ryan Tyranski answered the call with a bloop single to left field. But that was all the Kettleers would get, as a flyout and a strikeout ended the potential run.
After the Commodores notched one more in the top of the ninth, the Kettleers failed to get anything going to cut the three run deficit. Their fight ended without triumph.
The Kettleers as a team have the weekend off for the All-Star Break, but eight members of the team will be in action at Whitehouse Field Saturday for the 2026 CCBL All-Star Game and the 2026 CCBL Home Run Derby. Cooper will look for his team to use the break to experience the Cape and get some needed rest.
“I’m telling these guys to enjoy the break, rest up, experience the Cape and make good decisions,” Cooper said. “This is an introduction to professional baseball and part of that is learning how to handle off-days.”
After the weekend, Cotuit will hit the road to take on the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox Monday. First pitch at Red Wilson Field is at 4:30 p.m. EST.
