Massachusetts State Lottery Again Steps Up to the Plate to Honor ‘Hero of the Game’

Community initiative honors local military and first responders at every Friday night game

Hyannis, MA (June 9, 2025) – During each Friday evening game of the 2025 season, for the 4th year in a row, Cape Cod Baseball League teams will pay tribute to a local military member or first responder through the Massachusetts State Lottery 'Hero of the Game' campaign.

The Massachusetts State Lottery 'Hero of the Game' is a community-driven initiative, with each home team honoring one local military member or first responder by bringing them onto the field to be acknowledged during the middle of the fourth inning. The hero will receive a signed baseball from a player, a brief introduction to the fans and a photo to be featured on Cape League social media platforms, spotlighting the community's appreciation for their service.

Cape League fans can nominate a hero by filling out a form at the press box of each of the league's 10 teams.

“Partnering with the Cape Cod Baseball League to honor local heroes who make a positive impact in their communities is just one of the many ways the Mass Lottery proudly supports the people of the Commonwealth,” said Mark William Bracken, Executive Director of the Massachusetts State Lottery.

"We appreciate the Massachusetts State Lottery’s continued support of the 'Hero of the Game' program," Cape League President Andrew Lang said. "Honoring local military and first responders at each of our Friday night games reflects the deep appreciation the Cape League, our teams and our fans have for the critical and selfless role these individuals play in our communities.”

For the 2025 season, each Cape League home team will also participate in 'Red Shirt Fridays' to honor those who serve the United States by wearing red jersey tops and special baseball caps.
