The Whitecaps were well-represented in the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game, with eight members of the team seeing the field in Saturday’s showcase at Guv Fuller Field in Falmouth.

The game was a barnburner, with the teams combining for 17 runs in the West’s 9-8 triumph. But only one hitter blasted a home run: Brewster outfielder Nick Dumesnil. The Cal Baptist product did the damage in the top of the fifth with a two-run shot to left-center, which broke a 4-4 deadlock and gave the East a 6-4 lead.

That moment highlighted the day from a Brewster perspective, although a number of Whitecaps made an imprint on the contest.

Jake Clemente (Florida) started for the East, tossing a scoreless first inning with a pair of strikeouts. He was the lone Brewster pitcher to see the field, since Will Ray (Wake Forest) was unable to attend the game despite being selected.

Drew Faurot (Florida State), Brody Donay (Florida), Kaeden Kent (Texas A&M), Ryder Helfrick (Arkansas) and J.D. Rogers (Vanderbilt) all appeared, as well.

Helfrick reached base on a walk in the first, and Kent made his mark with an RBI single in the top of the seventh.

Donay and Helfrick both participated in the Home Run Contest as well, though both bowed out in the first round.

The team will return to action Monday in a 4 p.m. matinee against Cotuit at Stony Brook Field, looking to create some breathing room in a tight race for East Division playoff positioning.
