Bourne walks off Cotuit, 5-4, in 10th inning thanks to Kade Lewis

BOURNE, Mass. — A pair of two-run innings from both sides kept the Saturday night contest between Bourne and the Cotuit Kettleers tight throughout.

It was two runs for Cotuit in the third, and two runs for the Braves in the sixth, making it a 2-2 ballgame as the contest approached its later stages.

After the game was knotted at two runs a piece, it was Bourne that emerged victorious in the 10th by a score of 5-4, thanks to extra-inning magic from Kade Lewis (Wake Forest).

The scoring started with Cotuit in the third. Luke Matthews (Kent State) was the first to reach on an infield single, then stole second and got to third on a groundout hit by Case Sanderson (Nebraska). An RBI sacrifice fly hit off of the bat from Camden Johnson (Wichita State) scored Matthews for the first run of the game.

The scoring continued with the Kettleers loading the bases, as Ryan Farber (Texas State) got hit by a pitch, Caden Bogenpohl (Missouri State) walked and Jack Natili (got bit by a pitch). An RBI infield single by Dean West (UCLA) made it a 2-0 score.

Bourne had its first scoring chance in the fifth as Jason Torres (Alabama) reached second after he walked and Ryan Cooney (Oregon) singled. The Braves couldn’t cash in, but in the next inning they did.

In the sixth, Cal Sefcik (Cincinnati) singled but got thrown out at third on a toss from Bogenpohl in left-center field on a single from Braden Holcomb (Vanderbilt). Holcomb took second on the throw to third.

Holcomb then scored shortly after, as an RBI double from Ryker Waite (Vanderbilt) scored his collegiate teammate. Holcomb then touched home plate right after, as an RBI single off of the bat of Drew Wyers (Mississippi State) made it a 2-2 score.

Farber started on second in the final inning of play, taking third on a wild pitch from Packy Bradley-Cooney (Alabama). Another wild pitch from Bradley-Cooney led to Farber scoring, giving Cotuit the 4-2 lead.

The wild pitch advanced Bogenphol to second after his walk in the previous at-bat, who then reached third after a balk from Bradley-Cooney. An RBI single from Zan Von Schlegell (St. Thomas) scored Bogenpohl to give Cotuit the 4-2 lead.

Then Bourne responded, as Cooney started on second with Jon LeGrande (St. John's) following him after getting hit by a pitch. The pair scored on a two-run double from Holcomb to tie it up at 4-4.

After Waite was intentionally walked, Wyers flew out. With two on and two outs, Lewis was at the plate, and he walked it off on an RBI single that scored Holmcomb.

Bourne Braves Player of the Game

A combined five innings of relief work with six strikeouts from Logan Beavis (Texas Tech) and Dominic Mauro (Cincinnati) aided the Braves to victory after recent struggles from the bullpen.

Key moment

A timely by Lewis in the 10th with a runner in scoring posistion was the difference, ending the game in walk-off fashion.
