Host Family Opportunities
Host Family Opportunities
The Bourne Braves organization is looking for families willing to open their homes and their hearts to host one or two players for the upcoming Cape League season. Housing a player generally runs from the first week in June until mid-August. We will also have temporary players who may only require housing for a short period in June. A Home away from home for these talented collegiate athletes is critical to the success of Cape Cod Baseball.
We are extremely grateful for our network of host families, as it is such an important aspect of each player’s time while playing for the Bourne Braves. The bond between many host families and their players extends beyond the summer and forms lifelong friendships. Many families follow their players throughout their college career, their life events and some even to the big league!
We kindly request that each host family provide a bed, access to a washer and dryer, internet access and offer at least one meal per day. The Braves pay a weekly stipend to offset these expenses, and the host families are not required to provide transportation for players.
If you would like to host a Braves player this season, or want to learn more about this amazing experience, please contact our Housing Coordinator, Tammy Hare.
Testimonials from Host Families
“When we were asked to be a host family more than five years ago, we happily accepted to open our home to some players. Having two boys ourselves who played baseball, we thought, who better role models than these college athletes? We didn’t know the first thing about hosting, but we were excited nonetheless. It’s more than providing the basic needs of a bed, meals and laundry. It’s about being their home away from home, giving them a comfortable living situation, treating them like one of your own kids, being their game day cheer squad, their travel guide to the Cape, showing them New England traditions, and let’s not forget our very own fun tradition of a “Tomahawk Steak” for a home run!
We have formed lifelong friendships and lasting bonds with both players and their families. We have traveled to their colleges to watch them play spring ball, not to mention visit past players who have been drafted and are now in the minors, making their way to the Bigs! These players ARE family who you continue to root for in everything they do. They are our summer sons.
We love baseball and are lucky to have some of the best baseball here on the Cape. Thank you, Bourne Braves, for having us!"

“Hosting for the Bourne Braves has become a way of life in my world. We hosted our first summer son in 2000. It was like having a big brother for my son, Brian. It was so enjoyable, we said, 'Let’s do it again, and again.'
While these young men and their families are forever grateful that we have opened our homes to them, I find that I get as much enjoyment out of it as well. It’s fun to find ways to help them enjoy their time here on Cape Cod. Primarily, they have their own schedules and commitments to the team, yet they become like family. It’s exciting to see how far their dreams take them and to follow them wherever they go.
We have boys who have stayed with us from all over the country, and as a result, we have made friendships and maintain connections in places I would never have imagined. Some days I wonder if it’s more rewarding for me or for the young men who have been able to call this home!”
