HYANNIS, Mass. — Bourne took the lead early, gave it up, then had to wait 90 minutes before seeing the field again at McKeon Park.
It started as a back-and-forth affair through three innings with Hyannis leading 5-3 entering the top of the fourth, but a downpour of rain and a flash of lightning delayed the contest for an hour and a half.
The Braves trailed prior to the break, but when play resumed the bats came alive, as they took the lead with a three-run sixth, which paved the way to a 12-6 victory.
Bourne got out in front in its first set of swings, starting with a pair of singles from Ryker Waite (Vanderbilt) and Logan Hughes (Texas Tech). After advancing to third on the hit from Hughes, Waite scored on a throwing error from catcher Brody Briggs (Arizona State) trying to catch Hughes stealing.
Hughes took third on the aforementioned throwing error, then scored shortly after on a wild pitch from Thomas Crabtree (Tennessee) to take the 2-0 lead.
A half inning later Hyannis answered back, starting with a Jake Schanffer (North Dakota State) single and Matthew Miura (Hawaii) walk. Schanffer then scored on an RBI single from Ryan McKay (Michigan State).
After an infield single by Gabe Camacho (UC San Diego) where he juked out Kade Lewis (Wake Forest) by first base bag on a slow roller, the Harbor Hawks knotted it up at 2-2 after a bases-loaded RBI walk from Jason Walk (Oklahoma).

The Braves took the lead right back in the second, as Gavin Kelly (West Virginia) reached second on a throwing error from Schaffner, then scored on an RBI double from Waite for the 3-2 lead.
Constant scoring continued in the bottom of the frame, as Charlie Bates (Stanford) singled and Schaffner got hit by a pitch. The pair both touched home plate on a two-run single from McKay to take the 4-3 advantage.
The final run before the weather delay came in the third for Hyannis, as Bates striped a one-base knock, then scored on an RBI double by Miura to make the score 4-3.
Play resumed with Waite standing on first after his single prior to the delay. He then took second on a Hughes single and third on a steal, then scored on a throwing error to make the score 4-4.
Hyannis took the lead in the fourth on an RBI single by Jeff Lougee (Duke) that scored Camacho after his single, but Bourne tied it up a half inning later as scored after a hit by pitch, Ryan Cooney (Oregon) walk, throwing error by Briggs and Campbell Smithwick (Oklahoma State) walk. The fifth concluded with the score reading 5-5.
The Braves put together a methodical inning in the sixth, as the bases became loaded following a Kuhio Aloy (Arkansas) walk, a Lewis hit by pitch and Braden Holcomb (Vanderbilt) walk. An RBI hit by pitch from Jon LeGrande (St. John’s) and a two-run single from Cooney put Bourne in front 8-5.
Hyannis tacked on another in the seventh, with the rally starting with a Briggs walk and Bates single. The bases would be fully juiced following a Schanffer walk, and then Briggs scored on a throwing error by Camden Kozeal (Arkansas) to second to cut the deficit to 8-6.
Bourne kept its stretch of consecutive innings with a run in the eighth, beginning with an Aloy double off of the right-centerfield fence. He scored on an RBI double by Lewis in the right-centerfield gap for his fifth time reaching base in the contest.
Lewis moved over to third on a wild pitch, and an RBI groundout by LeGrande would score him to make it a 10-6 ballgame.
Bourne added more in the ninth, as Nick Groves (Illinois) drove in Waite after his walk on a pinch-hit single. Kozeal laced one into the outfield to score Groves on a one-base knock to extend the lead to 12-6.
Jack Brown (Louisville) closed it out for Bourne in the ninth, closing out the game in a victory that ended just before midnight.
Bourne Braves Player of the Game
Kade Lewis reached base in five of his six appearances at the plate, going 2-for-2 with an RBI double as well as three RBIs, got hit by a pitch twice and reached on a walk.
Key moment
The weather delay gave the Braves an opportunity to rest for 90 minutes, and the bats came out hot after the break, exploding for seven runs over the course of multiple innings to extend the lead.
