Bourne gets blown out by Harwich, 12-2

BOURNE, Mass. — Entering Wednesday’s contest, Bourne hadn’t beaten the Harwich Mariners in 2025.

It was a matter of trying to avoid the season sweep for the Braves, trying to erase the 0-3 record against the Mariners and dethroning the only squad in the Cape Cod Baseball League they haven’t netted a win against.

If Bourne wants to knock off the Mariners this year, it will have to be in the Championship Series, as the Braves got blown out by Harwich by a score of 12-2.

After both sides couldn’t cash in with runners in scoring position during their first licks at the plate, it was the Mariners that drew first blood in the second.

Jake Koonin (Princeton) started the inning with a double, scoring shortly after on an RBI single from Trey Wells (Rutgers) to make it a 1-0 game.

Harwich tacked on another in third, as Tanner Marsh (Liberty) found himself on second after a single and a groundout hit by Niko Brini (Wofford). Dee Kennedy (Kansas State) pierced an RBI single to make it a 2-0 lead.

Bourne erased the goose egg from its tally in the fifth, with Mark Quatrani (Notre Dame) putting himself in scoring position after a double. He then touched home plate as Jason Torres (Alabama) notched his first RBI on a single to right-center field.

Harwich then extended its lead in the ensuing half-inning, loading the bases after walks from Koonin, Wells and Sam Harris (Duke). A single from Sam DeCarlo (Washington) and a wild pitch from Colton Hartman (Louisville) scored Koonin and Wells.

Two more scored, as DeCarlo drove in a pair of Mariners on a single. The rally continued as another run scored on a single from Marsh. The runs kept on coming, as Brini drilled an RBI double down the left field line.

Bourne just couldn’t get out of the inning, but it finally happened after an RBI single from Aiden Robbins (Seton Hall) to have the scoreboard read 11-1 after the frame.

The Braves then avoided the mercy rule in the bottom of the inning, as after Cal Sefcik (Cincinnati) walked and Quatrani got hit by a pitch, Sefcik scored on a fielding error by Marsh on a ball hit by Torres to make it 11-2.

Harwich answered right back to make the mercy rule back in play, as Kennedy got hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on a RBI single from Koonin.

Bourne couldn't escape the game ending early for a second straight inning, as Thomas Shurtleff (Penn) closed it out in the eighth to have the Mariners emerge victorious, 12-2.

Bourne Braves Player of the Game

Torres went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and knocked in the other run via a ball he hit that resulted in an error by Marsh.

Key moment

The Braves trailed by three entering the seventh, but then the deficit quickly became 10 after the bullpen gave up seven runs in the frame.
