The Y-D Red Sox offense was held in check on Friday, falling to the Brewster Whitecaps by a score of 9-2.

Michael Catalano allowed five earned runs in his start at Stony Brook Field, issuing three walks and recording three strikeouts over 2 1/3 innings. The Whitecaps scored two runs in each of the first two innings, all on singles. Will Baker stole home in the third inning to give Y-D its first run of the game, but that was the only run Catalano would receive in support during his time on the mound.

Drake Frize threw the next two innings, limiting the strong Whitecaps offense to just one run. Justin Lee surrendered three runs in his outing but struck out four over 2 1/3 innings on the mound. Infielder Dean Carpentier made his third pitching appearance of the season against Brewster, tossing 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

A bright spot for Y-D was Armando Briseño, who extended his hitting streak to seven games. The shortstop singled in the fourth inning and capped off his performance with a solo home run in the ninth. His first homer of the summer traveled 382 feet with an exit velocity of 103 mph. He now has six multihit games this summer for Y-D.

Edwin Alicea (South Florida) shut down the Y-D offense, allowing just one run over six innings. He recorded six strikeouts and lowered his season WHIP to 1.28. He was incredibly efficient, needing only 69 pitches to complete those six innings.

The top of the Brewster lineup helped propel the team to victory, as each of the first three hitters — Adam Magpoc, Dalton Wentz and Brendan Lawson — recorded two hits. Lawson drove in three runs, raising his season OPS to .954. Brewster’s offense saw the ball exceptionally well on Friday, consistently making hard contact across the field. Whether the ball found grass or not, the Whitecaps were squaring it up nearly every at-bat.

Y-D now sits in fourth place in the East Division, with only two games remaining in the regular season. The Red Sox will face the Chatham Anglers on Saturday at Red Wilson Field.
