Armando Briseño extended his hit streak to six games on Thursday as the Y-D Red Sox beat the Harwich Mariners, 6-4.

Harwich jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, but Y-D punched right back in the bottom half of the frame. Brayden Dowd and Chris Hacopian got the action started with back-to-back singles, staying aggressive against Olin Johnson (North Carolina). Briseño continued the aggressive approach by driving the first pitch he saw into right field, allowing Dowd to score.

“My approach is always to be aggressive,” Briseño said. “I definitely don’t want to be playing defense while I’m hitting, so if I see a pitch I like, I’ll swing.”

Y-D continued to add on against Johnson in the fourth inning, starting with a leadoff walk to Dowd. Hacopian’s second hit of the day moved the runners station to station, putting two on for Briseño.

Sticking with his aggressive approach, Briseño again jumped on the first pitch, lining it into right field. Dowd scored from second, extending Y-D’s lead to 6-2. It was Briseño’s second hit of the game. Both were first-pitch singles to right, each driving in Dowd.

While fans might think they’re seeing double when looking at the box score, Briseño has simply been an extremely consistent hitter for Y-D this season. In 14 games, he’s batting .353 and has recorded multiple hits in five of those appearances, including a four-hit performance against Hyannis. His presence in the middle of the order has been a major factor in Y-D’s recent success. And as if a .824 OPS wasn't enough, the shortstop has also been stellar on defense. He’s shown excellent range to both sides and a strong, accurate arm.

Y-D’s win over Harwich secured a playoff spot as it looks to capture the 11th championship in team history.

“We’re not missing pitches. Our guys are being aggressive and swinging at good pitches, taking tough at-bats,” Briseño said when asked about the team clinching a playoff berth. “I think we’re in a good spot going into the playoffs.”
