Game overview

The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (13-6) heed to Doran Park to take on the Bourne Braves (7-10-2) Monday at 6 p.m. This is the first matchup at Doran Park between Bourne and Y-D, and the Red Sox are 1-1 versus Bourne this season.

Pitching matchup

Y-D will start Bryan Peck (0-1) from Westmont College. Peck came into the CCBL as a temporary player for the Red Sox, but was recently reactivated as a permanent player for the rest of the summer. This is the first start of the summer for Peck, yet he’s appeared three times for the Red Sox, showing great put-away ability. Peck has thrown 11 innings, given up 12 hits and six earned runs and struck out 16 while walking five. He sits with a 4.91 ERA and 1.55 WHIP, currently with the fifth-most strikeouts among active pitchers in the CCBL. Cameron Padgett (0-0) from North Carolina will start for Bourne, with his lone other appearance of the season coming against Y-D on Tuesday. Padgett threw three innings, gave up three hits and no runs, and struck out four with no walks.

Y-D player feature

Despite not seeing himself in the starting lineup too often, Jackson Chirello (Kennesaw State) has been a key reserve for the Red Sox so far this summer. As a pinch hitter this summer for Y-D, Chirello is 4-for-6 at the plate with a home run and four RBI. Chirello leads the team in all of those pinch-hit categories. Despite starting only nine contests for Y-D, he has been one of the most reliable guys for Scott Pickler off the bench. Chirello is 2-for-5 against Bourne this summer with two strikeouts.

Y-D overview

Y-D sits with a three-game lead in the CCBL East with its 7-3 loss to Wareham on Sunday. Y-D is now 3-3 over its last six and has struggled to find the dominance on the mound its staff has had all season over the stretch. The Y-D pitchers have a 4.42 combined ERA while giving up 27 runs (35% of the runs they have let up all summer). The Red Sox still have given up the least runs in the CCBL (77) and hits (130).

Bourne overview

The Braves sit in fourth place in the CCBL West and are 3-2-1 over their last six. Bourne has been one of the least-productive offenses in the CCBL this summer but has found a groove over this six-game stretch. Bourne has averaged five runs per game and is fourth in RBI (30) and third in OBP (.365). Bourne has also walked a league-leading 34 times and stolen a league-leading 24 bags. Jack Penney currently holds the longest active hit streak in the CCBL with a hit in eight straight games. Penney is 2-for-8 against Y-D.
