Wareham returns home to face undefeated Yarmouth-Dennis
With 10 percent of the 2026 Cape Cod Baseball League season already in the rearview mirror, the standings are beginning to take shape.
The Gatemen and Red Sox come into game 5 of the regular season in different positions. Y-D has executed in the clutch with two saves this summer. Wareham attempts to put its promise into production. It has shown individual strong performances, but hasn't captured that day-to-day success just yet.
Starting Pitchers: Teel vs. Lee
Y-D: Easton Teel (Oral Roberts) started 14 games for the Golden Eagles this past spring and got the ball in their opening game of the Summit League Baseball Championship. He was named to the All-Summit League First Team after 68 strikeouts and a 3.26 ERA. Teel has a strong command of the strike zone and will force batters into tough decisions on edges and corners.
Wareham: Peyton Lee (Arkansas) had a strong debut on CCBL Opening Day against Cotuit. He only allowed one hit and one run against a squad that ranks third in the league with 24 runs. Lee started four games in his freshman season at Arkansas and struck out 16 batters, growing as a locator with each appearance. A warning to Gatemen fans sitting in lawn chairs behind home plate: don’t blink for his 95 mph fastball.
Players to Watch
Red Sox: In a league full of recent transfer portal commits, John Beverley (Auburn) has put on a show for his new coaching staff. He ranks third in the Cape League with six hits on the year and is batting a team-high .375. Beverley led Georgia State in hits and batting average this past spring, and will likely bat leadoff in his first season of SEC baseball thanks to his elite speed that will create movement on the bases.
Gatemen: Levi Clark (Tennessee) came to Cape Cod at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, just hours before Wareham’s road game against Brewster. Clark expressed his desire to be in the lineup that day and begin getting wood-bat reps, so manager Ryan Smyth put him at first base and had him hit fifth. He earned a walk and eventually came around to score a run. He can play catcher, first base and the outfield, but his biggest contribution is the addition of an impact bat to the front-end of the order.
After an up-and-down start to the summer, the Gatemen can put the Cape League on notice by knocking off the undefeated Red Sox. Thursday’s game is the first night of 2026 where weather may play a factor. Wind gusts are expected to reach 33 mph, which could impact both pitch placement and hit distance. The routine Wareham 6:00 first pitch may be a bit chillier than previous nights, but it adds another element to this cross-divisional matchup.
Fans looking to watch the Gatemen take on the 4-0 Red Sox at Spillane Field can attend the game free of charge. They can also follow the action from anywhere on Cape League TV and Wareham’s official YouTube page.
