Wareham defended Spillane Field in Monday’s 7-6 win over Chatham. Now, it looks to carry that momentum on the road.

The Gatemen’s offense found their stride Monday night with nine hits between six different batters. They knocked out the Anglers' starter after just four innings of work and scored against both Angler relievers. Wareham’s pitching staff shut the door in the ninth inning with a save from Brayden Kersey (Tennessee). All of the puzzle pieces, the individual standout performances, came together for the first win of the summer.

A new test一Wareham’s first East Division road game of the season一awaits.

Both the Gatemen and the Whitecaps sit at 1-2 after 20-win seasons last summer and entering 2026 with serious hype after multiple returners. The talent has been evident. Now, it comes down to producing and sustaining full-team efforts to come out victorious in the nation’s top summer collegiate baseball league.

Starting Pitchers: Mohan vs. Garcia

Wareham: The Gatemen’s starters have each recorded at least three strikeouts and at least three innings. Connor Mohan (Texas Tech) can continue that trend today but faces a team tied for the league lead with 15 RBIs. The K’s throw off timing and reduce the workload in the field. The lengthy starts keep manager Ryan Smyth’s bullpen rested and available for chess moves that arise in late-game situations. Mohan is no stranger to swing-and-miss stuff after nearly doubling his freshman year strikeout count in 2026.

Brewster: One of the CCBL’s most talented lineups has been plagued by pitching woes. The Whitecaps allowed double-digit hits in both of their losses and own the Cape League’s highest ERA at 6.23. Santiago Garcia (LSU), who ended his sophomore season with a hitless outing in the Tigers’ final regular season game, is tasked with breaking this trend. He was in a relief role during his first year in the SEC but struck out 15 batters in five appearances with the Harbor Hawks last summer.

Players to Watch

Gatemen: Linkin Garcia (Texas) was a contributor in getting Wareham’s offense over the hump on Monday. He put the ball in play with the bases loaded in the fifth inning that scored a run, then doubled in the seventh to plate Chris Ramirez (Transfer Portal). He tallied 59 RBIs in his freshman year and should continue to gain confidence at the plate this summer with continued reps.

Whitecaps: Adam Magpoc (San Diego State) gets on base. He has displayed excellent plate discipline with five walks, second in the CCBL, and reached base in each of Brewster’s first three games. Magpoc led the Whitecaps with 22 runs last summer and can hurt teams at the plate and on the base path.

Game 4 of Wareham’s season is an interesting test. The two squads have similar talent on paper, but haven’t made it count just yet in the win column to put the Cape League on notice. Can the Gatemen ride the wave of Monday’s offensive explosion? Will the Whitecaps bounce back from an eight-run loss in Orleans? The two squads have three combined CCBL All-League returners, so expect some fireworks in the showdown.

First pitch from Brewster’s Stony Brook Field is at 5:00 p.m. Gatemen fans can make the trip over the bridge and attend the matchup free of charge, or tune in by visiting Cape League TV or Wareham’s official YouTube page.
