The final day of the regular season brings the last two games.
The Gatemen are in control of their playoff destiny heading into Sunday, two points above the Kettleers. All Wareham needs to do is match Cotuit and it will maintain the fourth and final playoff spot in the West Division.
While Wareham is on a three-game win streak after critical divisional victories over Cotuit, Bourne and Falmouth since the rainouts, a final crucial day and crucial stretch awaits. The gatemen first travel to the Firebirds then return home to face the Harbor Hawks for the final game of the regular season.
Gatemen manager Ryan Smyth just wants his ballclub to sustain their momentum and let the numbers work themselves out.
“I just want to continue playing good baseball. Leave it all out there and see what happens at the end of the day.”
Orleans, Noon
After being rained out earlier in the week, Wareham takes its second and final trip to Eldredge Park. The Gatemen beat the Firebirds in their previous matchup this summer, but Wareham fell in an extrai-innings thriller in its last trip to Orlleans. The Firebirds have been eliminated from playoff contention, but have won two straight against the A’s and the Whitecaps.
The Gatemen are throwing Bryce Turner (FIU) for his first start of the summer and his seventh appearance with Wareham. He didn’t allow a single run in his last outing against Hyannis and threw 20 strikes over 29 tosses. Turner comes into the matchup with a 2.75 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
For Hyannis, Brayden Toro (Stetson) makes his fourth start of the season and looks to add to his strikeout total (21). He has been efficient with just seven walks, and threw six K’s to just one free past in his most recent opener.

Pitching matchups are undecided and the current playoff standings will be as well with Wareham and Cotuit both playing earlier in the afternoon.
The Gatemen will return home for game 40, the final of the regular season, and potentially a matchup with playoff implications on the line.
Hyannis beat Wareham at McKeon Park a week ago in a defensive battle, but Wareham’s bats have tallied 28 runs over its last three games. The Gatemen look like a whole new ballclub from just seven days prior.
One final stretch, everything is on the line.
