The Gatemen just had their final off-day of the summer, and a crucial stretch now begins.
Wareham sits two points behind Cotuit for the fourth and final playoff spot in the West Division, but the Gatemen sit two games behind due to the Kettleers’ clinching the season series a few days ago at Lowell Park.
After the break, the Gatemen visit an Anglers squad on a three-game win streak: Chatham took down Yarmouth-Dennis, Orleans and Harwich ahead of the off-day. The A’s are the fourth-place team in the East, but could make a late push for third with a strong rally in the late days of July and the start of August.
Chatham is 2-1 against Wareham this summer, now its time for their fourth and final meeting of 2026. Can the Gatemen come out of the break hot and set a strong tone for the final week of the Cape League Calendar?
Starting Pitchers: Montrowl vs. Pudvar
Wareham: Despite redshirting this past spring for the Knights, Brady Montrowl (UCF) makes his first start in the Cape League after six starts and 39 strikeouts in the Florida Collegiate League earlier this summer. His first appearance for Wareham came six days ago out of the bullpen, a strong hitless frame with two K’s against Brewster, but Montrowl now looks to shut down a Chatham lineup that has 16 runs over its last two games.
Chatham: Although Oliver Pudvar’s (UConn) last appearance for the Anglers came out of the bullpen on Thursday against the Commodores, he makes his sixth start of the season and second against the Gatemen. He earned in the loss in that game against Falmouth, his third defeat of the summer after allowing three hits and an earned run in just 0.1 of an inning of work, but Pudvar can gain a crucial win and become Chatham’s strikeout leader if he tosses a trio of K’s.
Players To Watch
Gatemen: Wareham was shut out against Hyannis, but Levi Clark (Tennessee) still finished with a strong two-for-three night at the plate and was one of the Gatemen’s two batters with multiple base knocks against the Harbor Hawks. He is a returner from last summer, a 2025 season that Wareham qualified for the CCBL postseason, and his bat and leadership skills will be crucial down the final stretch.
Anglers: Chatham pulled through in a tight divisional game against Harwich on Sunday, and it wouldn't have been possible without Armani Guzman (West Virginia) and his game-high 3 RBIs. His two base knocks from his two-for-four day in the batter’s box came in the back half of the game. Guzman was the only Angler batter with a double on the day and lead Chatham with three total bases.
