The Gatemen weren't supposed to have back-to-back home games after the break. The weather changed that schedule, only allowing two games around the Cape League to finish. Both of those “completed” games didn't reach nine innings, but got to the five-frame threshold.
Brewster played in one of those two matchups that finished, falling in five innings to Yarmouth-Dennis. But the Whitecaps beat a West Division team the Monday after the all-star break, Falmouth on the road, and have beaten the Gatemen twice already this summer and once at Spillane Field.
It's the first of two straight games between Wareham and Brewster: Wednesday at Spillane Field, and Thursday is the Gatemen’s final trip to Stony Brook Field of the summer. Brewster sits in second place of the East Division, and Wareham can head on another win streak with another home victory.
Starting Pitchers: Willcox vs. Patel
Brewster: The Whitecaps kept the CCBL-leading Red Sox’s offense mostly in check on Tuesday as they only allowed three runs on five hits, and now they turn that momentum on the mound over to Charlie Willcox (Ole Miss) for his fourth start of 2026. He didn’t allow a single Gatemen to score over five innings of work back in early July, and his strikeout count is up to 25 on the summer. But Willcox is tasked with facing a Wareham lineup that just put together its best performance of the month.
Wareham: While Sahil Patel (Ohio State) was supposed to start on Tuesday in Orleans, he gets his second start of the summer against another East Division squad. Patel’s last start against Yarmouth-Dennis featured five frames of no-run ball and a season-high four K’s. Wareham has allowed five runs to Brewster in both matchups earlier this season: Patel must contain the second-best offense in the entire Cape League. Efficiency will be the name of the game as 42 of his 70 tosses were strikes in his previous start.
Players To Watch
Whitecaps: Not only does Jamie Laskofski (North Carolina) lead Brewster in hits (30), batting average (.323) and OPS (.889), those marks all rank in the top five of the CCBL. He was one of eight Whitecaps selected to the Cape League All-Star Game, and now looks to make a push at the league’s MVP award. He was one of six Brewster batters with a hit against Wareham back in July.
Gatemen: Wareham’s bats didn’t have a chance to take the field on Tuesday, but Connor Cuff (Southeastern Louisiana) comes into this matchup red-hot with seven base knocks over his last three games. His most recent performance, a three-for-five day with three RBIs against Harwich, went down as his third multi-hit performance of the summer.
