The Firebirds biggest matchup of the summer featured teams on opposite trajectories, as Orleans came into the game as one of the league's hottest teams, while Harwich was spiraling.

Although it may not have been the prettiest, a win is a win. The Birds moved into the East's playoff picture with a 5-4, extra-inning win over the Harwich Mariners.

The mentality in the dugout after the win?

Saul Soto (New Mexico State), who closed out the game for the Birds, summarizes it as next game up.

"We're just taking it pitch by pitch, game by game. We're not thinking the playoffs," said Soto. "We just like competing and working hard."

The Birds tunnel vision mentality throughout the roster is impressive, but doesn't come as a surprise when you consider their manager's ability to reach his players.

Manager Kelly Nicholson remains focused on the next one and getting better every day.

"It's one game at a time, and all about staying healthy and preparing," said Nicholson.

"We got to continue doing the four things we talk about, throw strikes, put the ball in play, play catch, and run the bases."

Despite not executing Nicholson's four rules of thumb nearly as well as they have on their recent hot stretch, it was enough for the Birds to string together their fourth win.

At the end of the day, winning, and winning for his teammates, is all that matters for Saul Soto.

"I'm just here for the team, I'm a team guy and I just wanted to get a win for the boys," said Soto.

"These friendships are insane, I love my brothers."

The Birds will look to continue putting the league on notice after an off day on Monday, as they make their second and final trip off Cape for a matchup with the Gatemen.

First pitch from Wareham is scheduled for 6:00 pm
