The Harwich Mariners traveled to Red Wilson Field Sunday afternoon to face the Y-D Red Sox. The Mariners were coming off a big win Saturday night after a Jackson Hotchkiss walk-off in extra innings. Y-D has been the best team in the Cape halfway through the season with a 19-3-1 and are in the driver's seat of winning the East Division.

Brady Miller was the starter for the Mariners Sunday. Miller entered the game having only appeared in two games. The left-hander from Boston College has pitched three innings this summer and has only allowed one hit, as well as striking out five.

The Red Sox struck first in the bottom of the first inning after a bases-loaded single to the middle infield. Harwichs Nate Castellon wasn't able to make the throw to first and two Red Sox were able to score. A fielder’s-choice groundball by Y-D extended the lead to 3-0 after the first inning.

A Colin Larson bases-loaded groundout would score the first run of the game for the Mariners in the top of the second inning.

Harwich would take advantage of two Red Sox miscues in the top of the third inning to tie the game after hard-hit ground balls to the left side of the infield. Sean O’Leary’s RBI single to left field would give the Mariners the lead 4-3.

Brady Miller pitched lights out after allowing the Red Sox to score three runs in the first inning. Miller ended his night retiring the last 11 batters he faced.

"I can kind of compare it to one of my starts earlier this year at the ALS game. I gave up four runs in the first two innings, but I ended up going six innings and putting up four straight scoreless frames. I kind of related to that. I just started pitching better. In the first inning, I was falling behind and couldn't really throw my off-speed pitches in the zone. I went back into the dugout, hit the reset button, came back out, got my off-speed over the plate, got ahead in the count and got them to swing. They were aggressive, so we got a lot of early-count outs," recalled Miller.

Everything was working for Miller Sunday. To close the fourth inning, Miller tossed a 60-mph changeup to completely fool Y-D’s Caleb Daniel to end the inning.

"It's just a slow changeup. I've probably thrown it about 20 times this year. It's my regular changeup, I just slow it down to around 60 to 70 miles an hour. He was early on a slider and pulled it down the line, so I wanted to get him out a little farther in front. I just dropped that one in there, and it worked," said Miller.

The Mariners added to their lead in the top of the sixth inning after a Ty Smolinski two-run double, scoring Colin Larson and JP Peltier to extend the lead to 6-3. Ty Smolinski ended his day Sunday going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That full stat sheet was enough to earn the Cadillac Chain.

The Mariners offense has been rolling since the bottom of the ninth in last night's walk-off win. A Cade Kurland double in the top of the eighth inning gave the Mariners two more insurance runs to lead the Red Sox 9-3.

Jason Flores finished off the Red Sox for the Mariners Sunday after tossing the last two innings of the game and only allowing one hit. Flores was able to strike out two on the way to giving Y-D their second loss in a row.

Harwich manager Englert used a buffalo analogy to describe Harwich's resilience.

"We were the buffalo today. They scored three on us in the first, but the buffalo ran into the storm, and we weathered it. We came up with some timely hitting and pitched it really well. I was really happy with the way we showed up and played today," coach Englert said after the win.
