The Wareham Gatemen traveled to Harwich Monday to face the Mariners. The season series was tied at 1-1 entering Monday, each win going to the home team. The Mariners were coming off of a blowout loss to the Cotuit Kettleers Sunday night.

Harwich’s Jason Krieger got the start for the Mariners Monday. Krieger has been a strong arm out of the bullpen this season, but Monday was his first start. Krieger's best performance of the season came against the Falmouth Commodores where he pitched a three-inning perfect performance with four strikeouts to close out the game.

The Mariners struck first in the top of the first inning after Ty Smolinski launched a ball to right field for his third home run of the season. The ball traveled 382 feet. Quinton Coats would later drive in Ryan Gerety after a hard hit ground ball that got by the Gatemen’s third baseman.

Ty Smolinski ended his night going 2-for-3 with a double and a home run. Smolinski’s bat cooled off the second week of the season but it seems like he's right back to a good spot.

"Things started out pretty well for me, but it's part of the game. I looked at today as an opportunity to get back on the horse and get things rolling again. I'm not trying to do too much up there. I understand this game is hard, especially up here, so I'm not trying to dwell on the last couple of games. I'm just going out there and doing what I can," said Smolinski.

Colin Larson kept the offense hot in the bottom of the third after ripping a double down the left field line. With runners on second and third, Cade Kurland came to the mound to face his former college teammate, Caden McDonald, Kurland launched a ball to left field for his first Mariner home run. McDonald was having trouble with his former Florida Gator teammate all night allowing Kurland to reach base both plate appearances.

"I definitely enjoyed it. It was fun. Obviously, I played with him for a couple of years, and you win the trash-talking rights. Hitting a home run off him was pretty sick. I'll definitely have some fun with that. Probably not him, but I will," said Kurland.

Krieger was once again dominant Monday, pitching six innings of shutout baseball and striking out five. Only three Gatemen were able to reach base while the Pennsylvania native was commanding the mound. Krieger has now pitched 15 ⅓ innings with the Mariners and has only allowed one run. True ace material.

"I think my command has gotten a lot better. I'm just letting my stuff play in the zone and not worrying about walking guys. I think I've only walked one guy over 15 innings. Coming into the Cape, I knew my stuff was good, and I wanted to fill up the zone and get guys out. It's worked out pretty well," said Krieger.

The Mariners debuted TJ Ziermann. Ziermann tossed an inning tonight and pitched one inning. The UNCW freshman only allowed one run in his solo inning and notched his first strikeout for Harwich.

Despite the Mariners only scoring in the first four innings, Harwich was able to get the second win against Wareham in the past seven days. Jackson Peavy came out of the bullpen to eat an inning. Peavy only appeared previously against Chatham when he came into the game with the bases loaded. Monday, he was in a better spot, Peavy was able to strike out three in his lone inning while walking one batter.

Miguel Hugas closed out the game for Harwich, it was three up, three down for the South Carolina commit.
