The Falmouth Commodores traveled to Harwich Tuesday night for the final game of June. This was the second meeting of the two teams, Harwich got the best of them in their June 18 matchup mercy-ruling the Commodores 13-0 in eight innings.

Cooper Walls was the starter for the Mariners tonight. Walls is a Florida Gator product, who pitched 37 ⅔ innings in his first season with the Gators, posted a 7.17 ERA with 70 strikeouts. Walls is now the third Gator to suit up for the Mariners this season after second baseman Cade Kurland and pitcher Christian Rodriguez.

The Mariners had the Commodores number to start the game. Walls opened up his campaign with three straight strikes out to end the top of the first. Leadoff batter Colin Larson got two plate appearances in the first inning after the Mariners were able to notch six hits in the bottom of the first. Harwich would lead 4-0 after one inning.

The Mariners’ bats were red hot the first three innings. Harwich was able to start the game with back-to-back four-run innings. JP Peltier was able to hit his second home run of the season in the bottom of the second to make the score 8-1. Peltier's three-run home run traveled 390 feet.

Peltier has gone through a little week-two slump so he came tonight with a different approach.

"The main goal today was just to relax. It had been a little rough stretch the past couple games. I had to care a little less and just go play and have fun. That was kind of the idea," said Peltier.

Falmouth’s pitching struggled at Whitehouse Field the first five innings. The Commodores gave up nine hits and eight walks. Fans at Whitehouse Field also got to see two balks by Falmouth pitcher Alex Stern, who scored two of the Mariners’ 12 runs tonight.

Bryan Matuschat came out of the bullpen for the Mariners tonight. The Florida Atlantic commit pitched 9 ⅓ innings for the Mariners entering Tuesday, and held a 3.86 ERA. Matuschat had his most dominant appearance of the year, going 4 ⅓ innings with three strikeouts and only giving up one hit. The right-hander found most of his success because of his changeup.

"The off-speed was working a lot. I was filling it up, worked on some stuff before the game, and honestly everything was working. Mainly, I was just filling it up," said Matuschat.

Ryan Taffe closed the game going two innings with five strikeouts and only allowing one hit. Coach Steve Spitaleri has seen the process the offense has made the past two games and he credits it to the main skipper Steve Englert's coaching.

"Coach Englert and Coach Thibeault are back there during BP talking about different approaches, and I think the guys are buying in. They're really using the whole field, and they're applying what they're working on in the game. They're coachable kids," said Coach Spitaleri.
