SEC Network debuts new documentary 'Summerball: Cape Cod'

The strength of SEC baseball is displayed in full force in collegiate summer leagues across the nation, but none hold more weight than the Cape Cod Baseball League. That comes front and center as SEC Network debuts Summerball: Cape Cod on Friday, August 23 at 10:30 am ET.

Led by creators Andrew Harris and Doug Stanton, Summerball: Cape Cod gives viewers an immersive look at the Cape Cod Baseball League through the eyes of standout SEC players. Harris, a former Vanderbilt Commodore, is currently a baseball analyst for SEC Network+ and owner of UTL Digital. Stanton is a 35-year sports broadcast veteran and the Director of Live Event Production for Vanderbilt University.

The docuseries features 11 Southeastern Conference athletes as they compete in America’s most beautiful and prestigious destination: RJ Austin (Vanderbilt), Max Kaufer (South Carolina), Jake Clemente (Florida), Jayden Davis (Vanderbilt), Ryder Helfrick (Arkansas), Braden Holcomb (Vanderbilt), Kaeden Kent (Texas A&M), Cam Kozeal (Arkansas), Campbell Smithwick (Ole Miss), Ethan McElvain (Vanderbilt), and Brady Neal (Alabama).

“After hanging up my cleats at Vanderbilt, I transitioned to the press box as a baseball analyst for SEC Network +,” said show creator Andrew Harris. “My goal with this series is to show fans what college players do between Omaha and fall practice and to introduce them to the amazing communities that host these athletes each summer.”

Fans can also look forward to seeing some familiar faces as MLB veterans Chris Burke, Kyle Peterson, Mike Yastrzemski, Tony Kemp, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia discuss the Cape Cod Baseball League experience.

  • Episode 1: The documentary’s opening episode brings to the plate an introduction to the Cape Cod League itself – the history, the community, the culture and why it’s considered the most prestigious summer baseball league in the nation. Viewers will hear insights from coaches, ESPN analysts, team presidents, MLB players and scouts.
  • Episode 2: The second episode takes viewers on a deep dive with the players and the local communities that support them. Fans can watch as families travel to the Cape to cheer on their sons and viewers can look forward to seeing these athletes hit the links during a day off.
  • Episode 3: The final episode in the installment gives fans an inside look at the host families that open their homes to these players all summer long. The families are not the only ones in the spotlight in this episode as viewers can also discover the local gems that support the league and maintain the reputation of the greatest collegiate baseball summer league.
