Tonight, the Bourne Braves and the Massachusetts State Lottery were proud to honor Machinery Technician First Class (MK1) Stephen Ricardo as our Hero of the Game.
MK1 Ricardo has distinguished himself through an exemplary 16-year career in the United States Coast Guard, marked by unwavering dedication, technical expertise, and selfless service to both nation and community. After graduating from USCG Boot Camp in Cape May, New Jersey, in 2009, he began his career aboard the CGC Washington in Santa Rita, Guam, where he conducted vital law enforcement, search and rescue, and humanitarian missions across the South Pacific.
As his career progressed, Ricardo served in key engineering roles in Boston, Massachusetts, ensuring mission readiness for a fleet of Medium Endurance Cutters. At USCG Station Point Allerton, he executed over 50 search and rescue cases, directly saving four lives and assisting 111 others. Later, at Station Chatham, he enforced federal fishing regulations as a Northeast Living Marine Resources Boarding Officer, safeguarding both the environment and maritime safety.
Currently stationed aboard the USCGC Oak in Newport, Rhode Island, MK1 Ricardo has completed two deployments to the Florida Straits in support of Operation Vigilant Sentry and Operation Southern Guard, helping to secure our nation’s borders.
His service has been recognized with numerous accolades, including four USCG Achievement Medals, five Good Conduct Medals, and multiple unit commendations. Beyond his Coast Guard duties, Steve is a dedicated community member, having volunteered for six years as a coach with Plymouth Little League—guiding young athletes from tee ball to majors with the same commitment he brings to his military service.
Most importantly, Steve is a devoted husband to his wife Kat and a proud father to his sons Damion and Ryan, who inspire him every day to lead with integrity and heart.
