Last Time Out - Bourne
The Braves entered Saturday’s matchup with Wareham looking to snap a three-game losing streak. At the start of the game, that outcome didn’t look promising. The first batter of the game for Wareham hit a home run, and the Gatemen had a 3-0 lead in the third before the Braves recorded the first hit. As they have many times this season though, the Bravos fought back late. Bourne put up runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but still trailed 3-2 entering the ninth. Down to their final out in the last frame, the Braves threw together an incredible two-out rally that saw them load the bases and score the tying run on a wild pitch. With the game now even, Rustan Rigdon (Vanderbilt) ended the game with a walk-off RBI single to center.
Last Time Out - Falmouth
The Commodores put the finishing touches on their two-game weekend sweep of Cotuit on Saturday. After beating the Kettleers 14-11 on Friday night, Falmouth once again put double-digit runs on the scoreboard. The Commodores scored multiple runs in four different innings, building a 10-2 lead after the top of the eighth. Cotuit responded with four runs, but Falmouth’s lead was too large to come back from. The game ended as a 10-6 victory for the Commodores.
Previous Matchup
The Braves and Commodores have met once so far this season. In that matchup, Bourne erased a 3-0 deficit to force a tenth inning. Despite both teams having opportunities to score in the final frame, neither could and the game ended in a tie.
Player to Watch - Bourne
Approaching the halfway point of the season, Andrew Costello has yet to slow down. The Braves’ catcher has hits in seven of his last eight games and leads the CCBL with a .375 batting average. Costello also ranks second in the league with a 1.024 OPS.
Player to Watch - Falmouth
Over the last week, Ben Slanker (Louisville) has been a driving force behind the Commodores’ offense. After a slow start to the season, Slankers has recorded seven hits over his last five games. He has also driven in seven runs for the Commodores over the last week.
