Chatham: RHP Angel Cervantes (UCLA): 5.0 IP, 0.00 ERA
Last Time Out - Bourne
After digging themselves into a hole early, the Braves attempted to pick up their first walk-off win of the season against Brewster. The Whitecaps got out to an early 4-0 lead, with their pitching staff shutting down the Braves’ bats. In the eighth, Bourne finally found the scoreboard. Back-to-back RBI doubles from 1B Luke Costello (Wake Forest) and RF Derrick Pitts (Cincinnati) cut the lead to 4-2. The Braves loaded the bases in the ninth, but could only bring one run and lost 4-3.
Last Time Out - Chatham
Once 0-4 to start the season, the Anglers earned their fourth straight victory on Sunday over Hyannis. Chatham led from the jump, building a five-run lead through the first four innings and scoring four more over the last three innings to earn a 9-1 win. Rob Rispoli (UConn) and Connor Shouse (Texas Tech) each had three hits for the Anglers in the win.
Player to Watch - Bourne
Though Will Whelan gets the start today against Chatham, he is expected to be followed by LHP Aiden Stillman (Vanderbilt) for a long relief outing. In his one start this season, Stillman allowed three hits and two earned runs over three innings. In his freshman year at Vanderbilt, four of Stillman’s eight appearances came in relief.
Player to Watch - Chatham
Gabe Fraser (Florida State) is off to one of the hottest starts by a hitter on the Cape this season. Named Player of the Week by the CCBL, Fraser is second in the league in both batting average (.423) and OPS (1.214), trailing the Braves’ Andrew Costello (South Carolina) in both categories.
