
Spring has sprung across the country, and with the longer days and warmer weather comes baseball. As of writing this, the Bourne Braves are 71 days from opening the 2025 Cape Cod Baseball League season. In the meantime, plenty of former Braves' players are competing at their respective college teams.
Here is how Braves alumni have faired through the first month of the college season.
Marek Houston ('24) has followed up a strong summer at Doran Park with an even stronger spring at Wake Forest. In 21 games, the shortstop has belted 10 homers, 43 RBI, 39 runs, and 15 stolen bases to go with a .385 average while slashing .490/.709/1.199. He was recently named by Baseball America as the second-best shortstop in college baseball. ... College teammate Ethan Conrad ('24) has made a grand impression after transferring from Marist University following a breakout summer. Through 20 games with the Demon Decons, Conrad is hitting .382 with seven homers, 27 RBI, and 30 runs while slashing .495/.744/1.238.
Both Houston and Conrad joined 43 others on the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List.
Houston's double play partner, Cam Kozeal ('24), also hit the ground running with his new Arkansas teammates. The second baseman is hitting .374 with as many home runs (5) as he hit during his freshman season with Vanderbilt. ... Sticking in the SEC, LSU outfielder Chris Stanfield ('24) is enjoying the change of scenery after two seasons at Auburn. Stanfield is hitting .308 with seven extra-base hits, 12 RBI, and 30 runs in 21 games.
Coastal Carolina junior Caden Bodine ('23,'24) has clubbed three homers and is hitting .312 and slashing .421/.431/.852 while recording more walks (16) than strikeouts (11). ... Arizona junior Adonys Guzman ('23,'24) is off to the best start in his college career. The catcher is hitting .319 with four homers, 23 RBI, and 30 runs while slashing .400/.521/.921.
On the mound, right-handed reliever Griffin Hugus (‘24) has a record of 3-3 in seven games and sports a 3.57 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP with 50 strikeouts in 40.1 innings. … Fellow right-handed reliever Chase Meyer (‘24) has a record of 5-1 out of the bullpen with a 2.91 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP with 32 strikeouts in 21.2 innings.
Alabama lefty starter Zane Adams (‘24) has an unblemished 4-0 record in seven starts for the Tide. In 34.1 innings, Adams has a 3.67 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP with 36 strikeouts. … Florida State reliever John Abraham (‘24) is 2-0 out of the bullpen with a 3.45 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, and 22 strikeouts in 15.2 innings.
In the Atlantic 10, starter Trystan Levesque (‘24) is 2-0 for Rhode Island in 40 innings this season. The lefty has a 3.83 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, and 41 strikeouts in seven starts.
