Six alumni of the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox were selected during the first day of the 2025 MLB Draft on Sunday. Day one consisted of rounds one through three.
Wehiwa Aloy
The Baltimore Orioles selected Wehiwa Aloy with the 31st overall pick. Aloy played for Y-D in 2024, appearing in 21 games throughout the summer. He blasted eight home runs, driving in 24 total runs. The shortstop had a .642 slugging percentage with Y-D, totaling 52 bases during his time on the Cape.
Aloy won the 2025 Golden Spikes Award with Arkansas, becoming the first Hawaiian-born player to win the award. The junior had an astounding 137 wRC+ and a .350 average in college this year, hitting 21 home runs in 65 games.
Mitch Voit
The New York Mets selected Mitch Voit, an infielder and right-handed pitcher from the University of Michigan, with the 38th overall pick. Voit played with Y-D in 2023 for six games, recording a .273 batting average at the plate. He also made two appearances out of the bullpen for Y-D, tossing three scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
Voit made a huge jump offensively with the Wolverines this past season when he posted an eye-popping 157 WRC+ and led the team with a 1.140 OPS and a .668 slugging percentage. He also dramatically decreased his strikeout rate from 22.7% to 13% and walked more than he struck out this year. All of this earned him a spot on the All-Big Ten First Team at second base.
Ethan Petry
The Washington Nationals selected Ethan Petry, first baseman/outfielder from the University of South Carolina, with the 49th overall pick in the second round. Petry was the leading force offensively for Y-D last summer, winning Cape League MVP with 11 home runs and a whopping 1.240 OPS in 31 games. Petry was also the champion of the Home Run Contest during the All-Star festivities in Falmouth last summer.
During his three seasons at South Carolina, Petry was a star in the middle of the lineup with an OPS of over 1.000 in each of his three years and 54 total home runs in 168 collegiate games. This spectacular career earned him a multitude of accolades, including Perfect Game National Freshman of the Year in 2023, Perfect Game First Team All-American in 2023 and Preseason All-SEC First Team in both 2024 and 2025.
This past season, Petry was second on the Gamecocks with a .321 batting average and led the team with a .590 slugging percentage. He also significantly lowered his strikeout rate from 25.3% in his sophomore year to 17.4% in his junior season.
Easton Carmichael
The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Easton Carmichael, catcher/first baseman from the University of Oklahoma, with the 82nd overall pick in the third round. Carmichael helped lead Y-D to a President’s Trophy title last summer when he hit .299 with an .868 OPS in 36 games. Like Petry, Carmichael also put on a show during the All-Star festivities last summer, winning All-Star Game MVP by going 3-3 with an RBI single.
Throughout his three-year career at Oklahoma, Carmichael hit over .300 in every single season and ended up with a .336 batting average in 172 total games. This past year, Carmichael took a big leap at the plate when he launched 17 homers compared to 13 combined home runs in his previous two seasons.
Carmichael also recorded a 118 WRC+ and led the Sooners with a 1.011 OPS this season, which was the highest mark of his collegiate career. These impressive numbers earned him Perfect Game First-Team All-American honors and a spot on the All-SEC Second Team.
RJ Austin
The Baltimore Orioles selected RJ Austin, a utility player from Vanderbilt University, with the 93rd overall pick in the third round. Austin spent two summers on the Cape, both for Y-D.
In 2023, he played 29 games with a .802 OPS. He stole five bases, walking 17 times. Austin only played in 15 games with Y-D during the 2024 season, but was much better offensively. He raised his OPS to .896, hitting two home runs and six doubles. During his time with Y-D, Austin totaled 68 bases.
Austin played all three of his college seasons at Vanderbilt, appearing in a total of 181 games. He was recognized for his spectacular defense in 2025, being named a member of the SEC All-Defensive Team. He hit 14 home runs during his time with Vanderbilt, boasting a .471 SLG in his sophomore season.
Cody Miller
The Atlanta Braves selected Cody Miller, an infielder from East Tennessee State University, with the 96th overall pick in the third round. Miller played 20 games with Y-D this summer, where he was a spark plug at the top of the lineup with three home runs and eight stolen bases.
Miller made key plays in all facets of the game throughout the summer, helping lead Y-D to its nine-game winning streak in June. He made a big impact right to the very end of his time with Y-D, going 4-10 with a home run and two stolen bases in his final three games with the team.
Miller was a star throughout his three years at East Tennessee State, putting together a career OPS of .917 with 55 extra-base hits in 163 games. He found his power stroke this past season, as he launched 18 home runs after having just four in his first two years. Miller was also incredibly efficient on the basepaths this year, swiping 27 bases and getting caught only three times. These remarkable numbers led to him receiving a spot on the All-Southern Conference Second Team.
Rounds 4-20 of the MLB Draft will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, as Y-D looks to add to its impressive number of alumni selected.
