Garrett Wright recorded his first multihit game of the summer on Sunday, despite the Y-D Red Sox's 3-2 loss to the Harwich Mariners.

Ryder Brooks took the mound for Y-D on Sunday, making his sixth appearance of the season. A starting pitcher at UC Irvine, Brooks has been working out of the bullpen this summer. He threw 1 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Though he served as an opener, Brooks was removed in the second inning after several runners reached base. He recorded two strikeouts and allowed only one walk.

With two runners on and only one out in the second, manager Scott Picker brought in Tyler Pitzer as the bulk arm for the day. Pitzer was dominant, twirling 4 2/3 scoreless innings and striking out eight — a season high for the right-hander. He continues to be Y-D’s most dominant pitcher, positioning himself for a big junior year at Mississippi State.

Harwich scored all three of its runs in the second inning, sending eight batters to the plate. Sam Harris (Duke), Tanner Marsh (Liberty), and Niko Brini (Wofford) each contributed RBI singles, helping the Mariners move station to station as they built an early 3-0 lead.

Troy Dressler (Wake Forest) entered the night with a 2.95 ERA over 21 1/3 innings of work. He previously faced Y-D on July 6, tossing five innings and allowing just one run. On Sunday, he was dominant once again, throwing five shutout innings at Whitehouse Field. The freshman allowed only two hits and struck out six, lowering his ERA to 2.39 for the season.

Pitching controlled the middle innings until Will Baker broke through with a solo home run to lead off the seventh. After working a full count against Ryan Reich (Seton Hall), Baker crushed the ninth pitch of the at-bat to deep right field. His third homer of the summer traveled 386 feet.

Y-D’s offense kept the pressure on in the eighth, as Jack Arcamone doubled to start the inning. Armando Briseño followed with an RBI single, trimming the deficit to just one run.

With two runners on and one out in the eighth, Christian Rodriguez (Florida) entered the game for Harwich. Rodriguez silenced the Y-D offense, striking out five of the six batters he faced to earn a 1 2/3-inning save.

After a scheduled off-day on Monday, the Y-D Red Sox will return to action against the Falmouth Commodores at Red Wilson Field. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
