Wareham has played CCBL baseball the last seven days, and still has three games to go before reaching the Cape League All-Star break: a two-day vacation before the final stretch of the CCBL regular season. While the gauntlet stretch has tested the Gatemen’s bullpen and lineup with constant games and wear-and-tear, they have picked up three wins.

While Y-D still stands as the Cape League’s best team and is the first franchise to reach the 20-win mark in 2026, it has fallen in two of its last three contests. The Red Sox rebounded on Tuesday with a dominant 7-3 victory over the Anglers and have a 9-2 record at Red Wilson Field, but the Gatemen have improved against them in each of their three prior matchups.

Starting Pitchers: Patel vs. O’Leary

Wareham: After two strong outings out of the bullpen, Sahil Patel (Ohio State) looks to shut down the Cape League’s top offense in his first start of the summer. He hasn’t allowed a single run yet in those appearances一both on the road一 and looks to expand on his swing-and-miss stuff after tallying 26 K’s this past spring with the Buckeyes. Patel’s previous two appearances were under 30 pitches and just 2.2 total innings of work, but he has started a game both years in college.

Y-D: Cade O’Leary (Florida State) tossed a fantastic first start: he didn’t allow a single Brewster batter to score and struck out seven. He became one of 11 Red Sox arms with double-digit strikeouts on the summer and is now up to 15 K’s in 2026. Despite not making a start in his sophomore spring with the Seminoles, O’Leary is now transitioning into an opener role and already one of just eight Y-D pitchers with 10+ innings of work.

Players To Watch

Gatemen: Coen Niclai (Oregon State) was perfect last night against the Firebirds: he went 4/4 at the plate and tallied an RBI. Niclai is Wareham’s RBI leader at 15, a mark that ranks fifth in the entire Cape League. His four home runs on the summer earned him a selection to the Home Run Contest at the CCBL All Star Game, and now the Gatemen are receiving his power and bat skills in every part of the outfield.

Red Sox: Not only is Phoenix Call (UCLA) on a three-game hit streak, he has four base knocks in Y-D’s last two games. Call is typically in the leadoff spot and also mans centerfield, bringing value more than just his star bat. Speaking of value, he has swiped the second-most bags on the Red Sox and his speed can help turn typical groundouts into infield singles.
