The Gatemen are rolling into a four-game slate before the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Break this coming weekend. The Gatemen are winners of four straight games dating back to July 9.
In their last game against the Falmouth Commodores, the Gatemen dominated in all parts of the game, routing their division opponent 12-3 at Spillane Field on Sunday. Now the team faces a tough challenge against the Brewster Whitecaps, who sit in first place of the East Division.
The Whitecaps, despite an 8-3 loss to the Orleans Firebirds on Sunday, are also hot themselves. They were winners of five straight games heading into Sunday, helping them climb to the top of the CCBL power rankings.
The last time the Gatemen lost was against these Whitecaps, who defeated them 4-2 after an hour-long rain delay disrupted the game. They seek revenge tonight and hope to extend their streak to five in a row.
Starting Pitchers
Tonight, the Gatemen will start right-hander Caden McDonald (Florida). The Gatemen’s two-way player has been performing at a dominant level for the Gatemen at the plate, recently lifting the Gatemen over the Harbor Hawks with a go-ahead two-run home run on Saturday.
He has also been great on the mound, now making his third start for the team this season. His last start against the Firebirds on July 9 went well. He pitched 5.0 innings, allowed 5 hits, 2 earned runs, a walk, and struck out 2 batters on his way to a second win.
Brewster will counter with right-hander Lance Davis (TCU). Davis has appeared in five games for the Whitecaps this summer, with tonight being his first start. He pitched 12.1 innings, allowed 8 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), 3 walks, and struck out 18 batters in those five games. Look to see how he responds to the starting role against a potent Gatemen lineup.
Players to Watch
On Sunday, two new faces emerged for the Gatemen: Drew Rogers (Georgia Tech) and Chris Ramirez (California Baptist). Rogers, in his first at-bat as a Gatemen, started the offensive domination. He blasted a three-run home run deep to left field to put the Gatemen up 3-0 over Falmouth on Sunday.
Tonight, Rogers will face off against his former team. The former Whitecap played nine games this season with Brewster before being assigned to Wareham. Look to see how he does tonight.
Ramirez also had a great night on Sunday, going 2 for 3 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored. Look to see him in the lineup tonight as well.
The Whitecaps, as of late, have had tremendous performances from Adam Magpoc (Boston College). Magpoc has come in to fill the spot left by former Whitecap Josiah Ragsdale (Boston College), who was drafted in the seventh round by the Brewers on Monday, and has not disappointed.
On Sunday against Orleans, he went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Look for him to lead off the Whitecaps’ lineup tonight.
First pitch for tonight’s game will be at 5:00 p.m. at Stony Brook Field in Brewster. You can attend the game for free, or you can tune in to the Gatemen’s radio broadcast with Cory Miller, Josh Richardson, and Rayna Maggelet on the call by clicking HERE.
