The Gatemen are picking up good vibrations after their 4-1 win against the Falmouth Commodores on Saturday. The win, being their fourth straight, has turned the first quarter of the Gatemen’s season around, putting them 1 point, or a half game, out of first place in the West Division.

They now return to Harwich for the second time this season, and the second time in four days, to face the Mariners. The Mariners, who also have a 4-3 record, lost to the Orleans Firebirds 3-1 on the road on Saturday.

The Gatemen have an opportunity to win their fifth straight game tonight, which places them one win away from matching last summer’s longest winning streak of six consecutive wins. However, the Mariners will look to avenge their 5-2 loss to the Gatemen on Thursday, making this a win the Gatemen have to earn.

Starting Pitchers

Tonight, the Gatemen will throw left-hander Cooper Consiglio (NC State). Consiglio started against the Chatham Anglers on Monday, where he pitched 3 scoreless innings before a rocky fourth inning, where Chatham put up 7 runs. He allowed 4 runs, 4 hits, and 2 walks while picking up 3 strikeouts in 3 and ⅓ innings.

Look for Consiglio to come out hot, looking to avenge Monday’s rough outing. Besides that inning, he showed a lot of promise as a starter.

For the Mariners, they will throw right-hander Evan Dempsey (Florida Gulf Coast). Dempsey’s last start was on June 15th, against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. He pitched 4 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits with 2 walks and a strikeout in a loss.

He also aims to be in the win column, but will have to face an aggressive Gatemen lineup that has heated up over the last four games.

Players to Watch

The Gatemen offense has been rolling as of late, despite a calmer 7-hit night against Falmouth on Saturday. In that game, both Kyuss Gargett (Kentucky) and Ty Dalley (Clemson) crushed triples to energize the dugout. Gargett drove in 2 runs with his triple, and on defense was solid at third base, securing the last out to give the Gatemen the win.

Dalley also went 2 for 4 against Falmouth and Harwich in their last meeting. Look for both of these players to make an impact tonight.

The Harwich Mariners’ best hitter against the Orleans Firebirds was shortstop Tyler Bell (Kentucky), who went 2 for 4 and is currently batting .333 for the summer. He did go 0 for 3 in the Mariners’ last matchup with the Gatemen on Thursday. Look for him to want to avenge that and build off his recent success.

The Gatemen face the Mariners tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Whitehouse Field. You can watch the game at the ballpark for free, or you can tune in to the Gatemen’s radio broadcast with Cory Miller, Josh Richardson, and Rayna Maggelet on the call by clicking HERE.
