After falling to Yarmouth-Dennis, the Cape League’s top team at 11-1 on the season, Wareham returns to Spillane Field for another cross-division showdown.

The Gatemen and Anglers are different teams from when they met 13 days ago: Chatham is on a two-game win streak and sits at third in the East Division standings, and Wareham’s offense has recently exploded with three double-digit hit performances.

Wareham defeated Chatham for its initial win of the summer, the first game its offense truly found its form in a 7-6 victory. But recently the Gatemen’s work in the batter's box has been a team effort with the entire lineup producing.

Starting Pitchers: Gleason vs. Stephens

Chatham: Jack Gleason (Mississippi State) tossed just 1.1 innings of relief in his Anglers debut, and now makes his first start of the 2026 calendar year after 23 relief appearances this past spring with the Bulldogs. He racked up 42 strikeouts in the SEC despite only throwing 26.1 innings, and will look for similar swing-and-miss production against a Wareham lineup with the second-most K’s in the Cape League.

Wareham: Similar to Gleason’s path, Jordan Stephens (Georgia) is a typical relief pitcher that displays his value with efficient, strike-heavy innings which can help save arms for the rest of the weekend. He struck out two Mariners and didn’t allow a single earned run at Spillane Field in his single-inning Gatemen debut, now can he provide an elongated version? Stephens faces the third-best offense in the Cape League who last tallied six runs on Wareham

Players To Watch

Anglers: Connor Shouse (Texas Tech) is Chatham’s leader in hits (16), batting average (.372), OPS (.928) and OBP (.440). Defensively, he typically sits in a corner outfield position or will be placed in the designated hitter spot to add an extra bat to an A’s lineup which has vastly outperformed the 2025 group.

Gatemen: RJ Hamilton (Duke) has a hit in his last four games, and was one of five Wareham batters to record a base knock against Y-D on Saturday. He leads the Gatemen with six runs on the summer and sits second in walks with five: he gets on base, and then is dependable to come around a score no matter what the situation is.

The Gatemen grabbed their first save of the summer against the Anglers and prevented a ninth-inning comeback in a wire-to-wire thriller that used a total of seven arms between the two squads. Wareham’s rising offense and marquee home wins over Harwich and Falmouth have been a recent story of the West Division, but Chatham enters Spillane Field with some serious momentum.

First pitch in Wareham is set for 6:00 p.m. Gatemen fans can attend the game free of charge, or watch from anywhere on Cape League TV.
