After its sixth home victory of 2026, Wareham attempts to take down the West Division’s top team in the fight for position ahead of the Cape League All-Star break.
While the Gatemen took down the Harbor Hawks on Saturday, the Braves have recently been struggling to bring runs across. Bourne has been shutout in consecutive games and hasn't scored in 21 innings, but still holds the CCBL’s second-highest batting average (.241) and third-most hits (178).
Wareham faces Bourne for the third time this summer and second time at Doran Park: the Gatemen beat the Braves at Spillane Field earlier this month but then fell a day later on July 4th. Wareham can head on its first win streak of 2026 with this pivotal road clash.
Starting Pitchers: Baiotto vs. Baird
Wareham: Ethan Baiotto (Tennessee), one of the Gatemen’s four Cape League All-Stars, dealt in his first start of the summer in a divisional matchup. He held the Kettleers to just three hits and one earned run, and Cotuit only notched five total base runners. Wareham’s first two matchups with Bourne were relatively defensive games with just seven combined runs in July 4th’s matchup over the bridge.
Bourne: This will be Tyler Baird’s (Vanderbilt) Cape League debut. Although he comes into the heat of the CCBL season with hitters finding their stride, Baird struck out 51 batters over 45 innings in his freshman season against SEC bats. The Braves own the second-lowest team-ERA (3.15) and lowest opposing batting average (.194), and Baird will certainly be supported by the Bravo’s strong defense.
Players To Watch
Gatemen: Saturday was another strong performance from Wareham’s offense: it tallied double-digit hits for the fourth time in the month of July. RJ Hamilton (Duke) led all batters and provided three of those base knocks, and tacked on two steals. He has a hit in nine of Wareham’s last 10 games.
Braves: While Bourne’s offense has been quiet with just three runs in its last three games, Cooper Williams (Troy) is on a three-game hit streak. Williams has eight in over 10 games and started the summer in a groove with a current .276 batting average. And while he has yet to steal a bag, his 20 from this past spring make him a very capable threat on the base path.
