So far, the third quarter of the 2025 season has gone just as well as the Wareham Gatemen could have liked. A seven-game winning streak, winning both on the backs of hot hitters and dominant pitchers, speaks to the success of the team who are getting hot at the right time.
Their game against the Cotuit Kettleers on Thursday was no different. In a game where they were down 1-0 for six innings and struggled to build consistent offense, the pitching came through and held the Gatemen in the game.
Shortly after that, a four-run seventh inning brought the Gatemen a lead they did not relinquish, and they walked out of Lowell Park winners of eight of their last nine games. Now, they aim for their eighth straight victory against the Bourne Braves.
Their last matchup with Bourne a week ago on July 11 was as close a game as any the Gatemen have played all season, and they walked out of it with a win that kept the Gatemen’s hopes of winning a season series alive. The Braves are the only West Division team that has defeated them twice this season, and the Gatemen will have to get past them if they want to win their eighth straight game and enter All-Star weekend with all of the momentum.
Starting Pitchers
Tonight, the Gatemen will start right-hander Lazaro Collera (Miami). Collera is making his first start of the season tonight. The Hurricane rising sophomore has appeared in six games this season.
He pitched 9.0 innings, allowed 10 hits, 5 runs (4 earned), 2 walks, and struck out 5 batters in that span. His last appearance was against the Brewster Whitecaps on July 15, where he pitched one inning of relief, allowed 1 walk, and struck out a batter. Look to see how he adjusts to the starting role tonight.
The Braves counter with left-hander Colin Fisher (Arkansas). Fisher has started one game in three appearances with the Braves this season. He posted a 6.00 ERA after he pitched 9.0 innings, allowed 8 hits, 6 earned runs, 8 walks, and struck out 12 batters.
His last appearance was in relief during Bourne’s 10-3 loss to Cotuit on July 12th, where he pitched 2.2 innings, allowed 2 hits, 4 earned runs, 3 walks, and struck out 3. He will need to control a Gatemen lineup that is relentless through all nine innings.
Players to Watch
For Wareham:
- Hunter Carns (Florida State) delivered the insurance runs to secure the win on Thursday against Cotuit. His two-run home run was not only timely, but showcased why he is an All-Star hitter, batting .333 on the season.
- Brayden Randle (Ole Miss) also had a great game against Cotuit. Another Gatemen All-Star drove in the go-ahead run en route to a 2 for 5 night with an RBI and a run scored.
For Bourne:
- Kuhio Aloy (Arkansas) is the Braves’ best hitter, batting .327 on the season. He has had a lot of success against the Gatemen this season, going 2 for 4 against them on July 11.
- Newly acquired Cal Sefcik (Cincinnati) has also made a statement at the plate. Against Brewster on Thursday, he went 3 for 5 and scored a run.
