Omaha, Nebraska, home of the Men’s College World Series, is the final destination for all college baseball teams, yet only eight complete the journey. Now that Super Regionals have come to an end, those teams have been decided, and among them, nineteen Wareham Gatemen players and interns, both future and former, get to pack their bags for Omaha this weekend.
Seven of those nineteen are Arizona Wildcats, who came off a fantastic series comeback win over the 5-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels. Former Gatemen such as Brendan Summerhill, Tony Pluta, Julian Tonghini, Tommy Splaine, and Garen Caulfield, along with soon-to-be Gatemen Easton Breyfogle and Andrew Cain, lifted the Wildcats to their 19th College World Series appearance in program history.
The Louisville Cardinals also advanced to Omaha for the sixth time ever, and their first since 2019, after a gutsy 3-2 win over the Miami Hurricanes. Five players helped them get there: Michael Lippe, Nate Earley, and Bayram Hot, all of whom donned the “W” for the Gatemen last summer, as well as future Gatemen, Ty Starke and TJ Schlageter, helped the Cards in their return to the College World Series.
Three Chanticleers from Coastal Carolina and two Razorbacks from Arkansas also punched their tickets to Omaha. Ty Dooley, Darin Horn, and Riley Eikhoff, all former Gatemen, represent Coastal, who defeated the 4-seeded Auburn Tigers in two games. It is the team’s first trip to Omaha since 2016, when they won the national championship. Arkansas sends returning Gatemen pitcher Tate McGuire and former Gatemen player Christian Foutch to Omaha for the 12th time in program history after defeating the defending national champion Tennessee Volunteers in Fayetteville.
On top of all these players, two former Gatemen interns are traveling to Omaha for the first time. Ella Wolters, the Director of Operations for Arizona Baseball, will be joining the Wildcats in their pursuit of a national title. She served as the Assistant General Manager and MLB Scout Liaison for the Gatemen in 2023. Joining Ella is Keegan Maloney with the Chanticleers. Maloney was a photographer for the Gatemen last summer in 2024. The rising senior will be getting some great shots for Coastal in the College World Series.
The Wareham Gatemen Organization is beyond proud of these former and future players and interns who have made their way to the biggest stage in college baseball. They represent not only the Gatemen and the Cape Cod Baseball League proudly, but they also represent their college and hometown communities with great pride by working hard and achieving success.
