The Mariners are 35 games into the season and are in third place in the East Division with a 18-17 record. This past week the Mariners went 1-6. The Mariners picked up their lone win against Cotuit. The win over Cotuit clinched a playoff spot for the Mariners!
The Mariners’ offense was the fifth-highest scoring offense in the league last week. The pitching staff finished the week with the seventh-lowest ERA with a 4.62.
This week, our trio is composed of pitcher Brady Bendik, infielder Sean O’Leary, and outfielder Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe.
Brady Bendik | United States Naval Academy | RHP
Brady Bendik is one of the newest arms in the Mariners bullpen, joining the team just a week ago and he has been dominant since first taking the mound. The Patriot League Pitcher of the Year appeared in two games for the Mariners last week and had six innings of work. In those six innings Bendik allowed zero runs and only gave up two hits. Bendik racked up ten strikeouts in his two appearances and will be a crucial arm for the Mariners if they plan to make a deep run in the playoffs.
Sean O’Leary | UMass Lowell | first baseman
Sean O’Leary has been a Harwich Mariner since the first game of the season and has appeared in 23 of Harwich's 35 games this season. O’Leary played a crucial role in the big-time win against Cotuit where he hit an RBI single to tie the game. O’Leary batted .333 for the Mariners last week and has been one of the best clutch hitters for Harwich this season.
Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe | Kent State | outfielder
Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe, like O'Leary, has also been a player for the Mariners this season. The speedy outfielder has played a crucial role for the Mariners with his glove all season long but this past week his bat was top of the league. Kiracofe led the Mariners last week in OPS with a staggering .933.
Micah was a main reason the Mariners beat the Cotuit Kettleers Saturday after a game-saving catch where he dove in center field to make the run saving catch where the Kettleers were in the driver's seat to take the lead in the top of the ninth. The catch made Sportcenters Top Ten Plays on Sunday as the number six play. Kiracofe also was the winning run in the Mariners only win last week after hitting a lead-off double in the bottom of the ninth and later scoring on a balk.
