The Cape Cod League regular season is over, and the Harwich Mariners in third place in the East Division with a 21-19 record. This past week the Mariners went 3-2. The Mariners picked up wins against Bourne, Brewster and Y-D.
The Mariners’ offense finished the season as the sixth-highest scoring offense with 181 runs scored. Harwich led the entire league in stolen bases with 102 on the season. The pitching staff finished the season with the seventh-lowest ERA at 4.54.
This week, our trio is composed of the three season award winners, Marty McDonough MVP Award winner Ty Smolinski, Al Graeber Outstanding Pitcher Award winner Bryan Matuschat and the George Lane Sportsmanship Award winner Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe.
Ty Smolinski | Kansas State | Infielder | Marty McDonough MVP Award
Ty Smolinski has been a top player in the Cape from opening day to now. Opening day, Smolinski made SportCenter’s Top 10 Plays, when he tossed the ball behind his back to Julio Solier to help with the putout. Smolinski has played in 37 out of 40 games for the Mariners and has batted .313, a team-high. The Kansas State product is also tied in third in the entire league for home runs with six. Smolinski also was third in the league with nine doubles.
Bryan Matuschat | Florida Atlantic commit | RHP | Al Graeber Outstanding Pitcher Award
Bryan Matuschat has also been with the team since opening day this season. Matuschat has appeared in eight games out of the bullpen for the Mariners this season, posting a 3.32 ERA. Matuschat had 12 strikeouts on the season and only gave up seven runs. Matuschat's best performance of the season came in the June 30 game against Falmouth, where Matuschat would entered the game in the bottom of the third inning and go 4 ⅓ innings of shutout baseball, giving up only one hit.
Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe | Kent State | Outfielder | George Lane Sportsmanship Award
Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe was the 2026 George Lane Sportsmanship Award recipient. Lane was a vital member of the Mariners’ family throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He was remembered fondly for his passion for the game of baseball and his loyalty to the Harwich Mariners and Cape Cod Baseball League. This award goes to a player, who consistently led the team’s efforts on the field, in the dugout and in the community. Micah has been exactly that being a Mariner since opening day and always being a bright spot in the dugout through the highs and lows.
