Just like that the first week of the 2025 Cape Cod Baseball League season is in the books. The Mariners are off to a 4-3 start, just like the 2024. Already we have seen three shutouts by the pitching staff, a lead-off triple, eight double plays turned by the defense, and plenty of great moments.
Each week, we will highlight the best performances from the Harwich Mariners from the previous week.
Without further ado, here are the three starts from the opening week:
Third star: Maddox Molony, Shortstop
It was a tough call here between Molony and Eric Becker. Becker started the season off with a three-game hit streak and was nearly impossible to get out. Both guys are batting .278 and have driven in three runs entering Sunday.
Molony gets the nod for mainly knocking the first Harwich Mariner home run at Whitehouse Field. The Oregon Duck is riding an OPS of .853, which is second-best on the Mariners.
Second Star: Niko Brini, Outfield
The Wofford outfielder was anything but quiet this past week. Brini found a way to contribute in just about every game.
To make up for a hitless game against Hyannis, he recorded an outfield assist by throwing out a guy at third. Two days later against Cotuit, he led the game off with a triple. He then proceeded to get singles in the next two innings.
His six hits are tied for the team lead and he is one of a trio of Mariners with three stolen bases.

First Star: Jake McCoy, Starting Pitcher
Was there any doubt who would get the top nod? So far, McCoy has two starts and no earned runs over 8.1 innings pitched.
He turned heads immediately, striking out 10 Bourne Braves hitters on opening night. His total matched a league-high for the first day of the season since at least 2010.
After posting a 6.0 per nine at South Carolina, the lefty came to the Cape to tune up his control. Allowing just two free passes with the Mariners, McCoy showed he can control the strike zone.
He ranks among the top pitchers in every category, and was a part of two Harwich team shutouts.
