The Harwich Mariners hosted the Falmouth Commodores at Whitehouse Field Tuesday afternoon. First pitch was at 3:15 because of the incoming rain hitting the Cape Tuesday night. The Mariners were coming off a 9-3 loss at Wareham Monday, where the Harwich offense stalled after a three-run third inning. Harwich was looking to finish the season sweep over Falmouth.
Tommy Martin was the starter for the Mariners. Martin was coming off his first start with the Mariners last Tuesday where the right-hander went five innings and gave up three runs. Martin allowed four hits as well as striking out three Whitecaps.
The Commodores struck first in the top of the third inning after Falmouth had runners on the corners. Falmouth’s Fabio Peralta grounded into a forceout which allowed Jeff Lougee to score the first run of the game.
Falmouth extended their lead in the top of the sixth inning after Brayden Jefferis knocked a ball into shallow right field. Harwich’s Colin Larson dove for the ball and could not make the grab. The ball rolled all the way to the fence which allowed Jefferis to have a stand-up triple and RBI.
Tommy Martin made it six innings for the Mariners only allowing two runs and striking out two.
The afternoon duel only made it to eight innings after officials had to call the game because of the torrential downpour. Harwich had the speedy Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe on first with slugger Paul Jones up at bat before lightning struck and ended the game
What’s Next
The Mariners drop their third game in a row and will pick back up tomorrow traveling to Orleans to face the Firebirds.
First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
