The Harwich Mariners traveled to Eldredge Park to face the Orleans Firebirds Wednesday night. The Mariners are coming off a 2-0 loss to the Falmouth Commodores when the game was called after eight innings because of the heavy rain. The last time the Mariners played the Firebirds, Harwich came out with an 8-5 victory.
Riley Goodman was the starter for the Mariners Wednesday. Goodman's last start was in the Orleans game last week where the right-hander committed to Georgia went four innings with eight strikeouts. Goodman only allowed one run in the start and came away with the win.
The first two innings belonged to the Firebirds after leadoff batter Rowan Kelly ripped a stand-up double down the right field line for his standup double. Dominic Cadiz would help Kelly score after an RBI single and the first run of the game. Garrett Larsen would knock a single up the middle in the bottom of the second inning to score Adam Magpoc and give the Firebirds a 2-0 lead.
The bleeding didn't stop for the Mariners after a two-run home run from Tyler Myatt in the bottom of the third. Everything was going the Firebirds’ way after back-to-back-to-back RBI singles from Orleans in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 7-0.
The Firebirds were able to finish the game early after scoring three runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to mercy-rule the Mariners 10-0.
The Mariners’ bats have gone very quiet since the All-Star break. Harwich’s offense has only scored two runs in their last 36 innings and are on a four-game losing streak.

The Mariners look to break the losing streak when they host the Orleans Firebirds Thursday.
