The Y-D Red Sox traveled to Whitehouse Field to face the Mariners for a Friday afternoon game. The Mariners have won four of their last five games and are rolling into the All-Star break. The Mariners got the best of the Red Sox in their last matchup at Red Wilson Field where Harwich walked away with a 9-3 win.
Cooper Walls was the starter for the Mariners today. Walls is coming off a one inning appearance against the Red Sox last Sunday where he would only allow one hit without giving up a run. The right-hander also picked up a solo strikeout.
The Red Sox struck first in the top of the third inning with runners on first and third. Y-D’s Phoenix Call doubled to left field for the two-run double hits. Reid Howard’s sacrifice bunt gave the Red Sox a 3-0 lead early.

In the top of the fourth inning, with two Red Sox runners on base, Y-D’s Dante Vachini was up to bat and poked a foul ball toward the Mariners dugout. Harwich’s Nate Castellon made a great jump on the ball and sprinted towards the dug out and dived to make the impressive grab.
Vachini and Castellon are not strangers to each other. They share the diamond with each other 3,000 miles away at their college Cal Poly.
"I got a good read off the bat. It's funny because my buddy from Cal Poly was the one hitting, so that gave me a little extra motivation to lay out for it. I was able to make the play, and it was pretty sweet," said Castellon.
The Red Sox added to their lead in the top of the sixth inning after back-to-back RBI singles from Cole Hansen and Caleb Daniel to give Y-D a 6-0 lead. The Mariners were not able to score the last three innings to give the Red Sox a shutout win.
What's Next?
The Mariners will pick back up Monday when they travel to Wareham to face the Gatemen. Colin Larson, JP Peltier, Quinton Coats, Ty Smolinski and Nate Castellon will be at Whitehouse Field Saturday as they were selected as Cape Cod League East Division All-Stars.
First pitch against the Gatemen is set for 6:00 p.m.
