After picking up just their second win of the month Monday night at Bourne, the Harwich Mariners slipped back into the loss column Wednesday with a 7-0 loss to the Brewster Whitecaps. The Mariners were held to just two hits on the evening as Brewster starter Jake Clemente held the Harwich bats at bay with six strikeouts.

Harwich kept itself within striking distance until the fifth and sixth innings, when Brewster picked up five runs with a string of base hits, as well as two errors from the Mariners.

Brody Donay made life difficult for Harwich pitching all evening, going 2-for-4 with a monster home run in the bottom of the second that broke the ice at Stony Brook Field. Donay took Harwich starter Andrew Evans (Kansas State) deep into an at-bat, and on the ninth pitch he crushed a ball over the scoreboard in left field to put his team up early.

Harwich's fielding was once again a problem, making four errors, three of which directly contributed to Whitecaps runs.

Kevin Zarnoch (UMass Lowell) impressed on the mound in one inning of relief for Harwich, striking out the side in the bottom of the eighth.

There aren't many positives to be taken out of Wednesday night with the exception of Cam Maldonado (Northeastern) extending his hitting streak to seven games with an infield single in the top of the second inning.

Harwich is back on the field Thursday when it plays a makeup game against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox at Red Wilson Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
