The Y-D Red Sox are poised for another big season, with Opening Night set for June 14 against the Brewster Whitecaps. Y-D posted a 24-12-4 record in 2024, falling to the Harwich Mariners in the East Division Championship. Manager Scott Pickler returns for his 27th season at the helm, leading a potent offense ready to challenge opposing pitching.
Catchers
Pickler will have three catchers at his disposal for the 2025 campaign, with playing time expected to be shared among Garrett Wright, Nolan Traeger, and Jake Bold.
Wright, a sophomore at Bowling Green State University, posted a jaw-dropping 177 wRC+ and a 1.149 OPS in 2025. He reached base in 52 of his 54 games. Wright’s .401 batting average led the MAC by 14 points and was accompanied by a league-best .510 on-base percentage.
Traeger, a standout at TCU, hit .327 with a .900 OPS and 17 RBIs. Defensively, he was excellent, recording 362 putouts and posting a .995 fielding percentage. He committed just two errors all season, continuing to be a reliable asset on both sides of the field.
Bold, a sophomore from Princeton University, hit .260 over 43 games this past season. His .442 on-base percentage ranked sixth in the Ivy League, fueled by a conference-high 41 walks.
Infielders
Pickler has a combination of experience and talent scattered throughout his infield, with several options at each position. Phoenix Call, who played for Y-D in 2024 and is in Omaha with UCLA, is expected to join the team once the Men’s College World Series has concluded.
Georgia Tech infielders Alex Hernandez and Will Baker will suit up together this summer, bringing strong offensive firepower to Y-D’s lineup. Hernandez posted a 1.024 OPS over 59 games, driving in 69 runs during a standout freshman season. He was recently named a First Team Freshman All-American. Baker, a native of Queensland, Australia, recorded an .831 OPS with six home runs and 12 walks on the year.
Dean Carpentier, a sophomore at USC, is coming off a season in which he drove in 18 runs and posted an impressive 11.6% walk rate. Coming out of high school, he was ranked by Perfect Game as the No. 20 shortstop in California.
Yomar Carreras, a freshman from Rutgers, scored 25 runs in 45 games. He totaled five home runs, driving in 23 runs throughout the season. After entering the season as the 13th-best prospect in New Jersey, Carreras was named to the 2025 Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
Chris Hacopian, who attended the University of Maryland, hit an impressive .375 with a 1.158 OPS. His .502 on-base percentage ranked second in the Big Ten, and he added 14 home runs and 61 RBIs. A 2025 Second Team All-Big Ten selection, Hacopian led the Terrapins with 72 hits. The shortstop entered the transfer portal last week.
Named to the 2025 SoCon All-Tournament Team, Cody Miller had a 135 wRC+ in his junior season at East Tennessee State University. His .623 slugging percentage was the sixth best in the Southern Conference, with 18 home runs ranking fifth.
Avery Ortiz’s season at Oregon State was cut short due to an injury, but he’s ready to get back into action this summer. Ortiz collected seven RBIs, posting a .770 OPS. Perfect Game listed the infielder as Oklahoma’s 5th-best infielder in 2023.
Outfielders
A 6’3 sophomore from Texas Christian University, Chase Brunson hit 12 home runs in the 2025 season. His 58 runs scored were tied for the eighth most in the Big 12. Brunson had 27 extra-base hits, giving him an impressive .554 slugging percentage.
Cider Canon posted an astonishing .733 SLG% with Davidson College in 2025, the third-best SLG% in the Atlantic 10 conference. A .505 wOBA and .460 OBP solidified Canon as one of the best hitters in the Atlantic 10.
AJ Soldra played in 54 games for Seton Hall University, drawing 30 walks and reaching via hit-by-pitch eight times. He finished with 112 total bases, tied for eighth best in the Big East Conference.
Jake Brown, a returning player from last summer who attends Louisiana State University, is expected to join the team after the Men’s College World Series is complete.
