The Y-D Red Sox saw their winning streak come to an end on Tuesday night, losing 8–2 to the Cotuit Kettleers. Y-D tied a franchise record with nine straight wins, but a strong performance from the Kettleers’ offense ended the streak before it could reach double digits.

Cody New took the mound for Y-D, allowing six hits over two innings. He threw 49 pitches, only 23 of them for strikes. New struggled with command, issuing four walks and recording two strikeouts against Cotuit.

The Kettleers broke the game open in the second inning, scoring four runs off New. Caden Bogenpohl (Missouri State) delivered the big blow with a 412-foot home run that left the bat at 104 mph. Making his debut with Cotuit this summer, Bogenpohl quickly made a strong impression.

Cotuit’s pitching staff was dominant, carrying a perfect game into the sixth inning. James Hays (Stetson) started for the Kettleers, striking out six over five innings without allowing a single baserunner. The perfect game remained intact until Beau Sampson (OU) entered in the sixth.

Dean Carpentier broke up the perfect game with a double to center field off Sampson. He’s been heating up lately, now batting .304 with an .838 OPS.

Y-D got on the board in the seventh inning when AJ Soldra launched a solo home run to right field. The blast, his fourth of the season, traveled 365 feet. The UConn sophomore represented the Cape Cod League on Monday at Citi Field, facing off against the MLB Draft League. He went 0-for-1 in the showcase with a sacrifice fly.

Soldra has been fantastic for Y-D this summer, posting a 1.197 OPS through 12 games. His 13 hits leads the team, paired with an impressive .432 on-base percentage.

After singles by Dean Carpentier and Cody Miller, Soldra came through again with an RBI single. Y-D finished with five hits, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Kettleers’ offensive explosion.

Although the Kettleers only had eight hits, Y-D’s pitching staff allowed ten total walks on the night. On the other side, Y-D only drew two walks in the darkness-shortened eight inning game.
