For the first time since 2013, Y-D hosted the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game, and the day did not disappoint. From fan fest, to the home run derby, to the game itself, the day was packed with home runs, happy fans and so much more. In total, 6,137 fans poured into Red Wilson Field for Saturday's event.
Y-D pitcher Brady Hamilton got the call from manager Scott Pickler to start the All-Star Game. The Wichita State product did what he does best: induce weak contact, pound strikes and do it with confidence. Ultimately, Hamilton worked around a walk to throw a clean inning and forced an inning-ending double play in the top of the first inning.
The East’s bats got to business early. With Texas Christian and Falmouth righty Trevor Baumlet on the bump, Orleans’ Elijah Ickes started the bottom of the first with a hard line drive into left field for a base knock. Two batters later, Brewster’s Dalton Wentz hit a moonshot deep into the tree line in right-center field to get the scoring started. But the bats weren’t done just yet. One at-bat later, Dee Kennedy hit a ball that nearly cleared the scoreboard in left field, giving the East a 3-0 lead after one inning.
In many ways, this game was put to bed by the end of the third inning. With Bourne pitcher Will Whelan on the mound, the East struck for a mammoth six-run inning. Jackson Freeman began the inning by reaching first base on a dropped third strike. The East capatalized on the error as Robbie Lavey, Dee Kennedy, Cashel Dugger and Tre Broussard recorded four straight hits and three runs. The inning was capped off by an Ashton Larson three-run home run. By the end of the third inning, every player on the East roster had reached base, and the team had a 10-1 lead.
However, the West still fought back to make this All-Star Game competitive. With Y-D pitcher Tyler Pitzer on the bump in the top of the fourth, Ryan McKay hit a two-run double that hit off the base of the left field wall. Two batters later, Falmouth’s Antonio Morales drove in another run, reducing the West’s deficit to 10-4 by the end of the inning.
As soon as the West had momentum, the East took it right back. In the sixth inning, the East hit back-to-back home runs for the second time in the game. With Hyannis’ Ryan Speshyock on the bump, Chatham’s Daniel Jackson and Harwich’s Aiden Robbins went back-to-back, each clubbing balls well over the wall. By the end of the sixth inning, the East had a dominating 13-4 lead.
The West continued to battle, despite the nine-run deficit. Falmouth’s Bear Harrison got the fastball he wanted from Orleans’ Cole Tryba and absolutely anhilated the pitch halfway up the tree line in dead center to start the top of the seventh. Bourne’s Jon LeGrande and Hyannis’ Jeff Lougee each scored in the inning, making it a 13-7 ballgame at the end of seven. The West added one more run in the eighth after Wareham’s Chase Krewson went yard, the eighth total home run of the game.
Looking to protect a five-run lead in the top of the ninth inning, Scott Pickler went to a familiar face in Y-D’s Dominic Desch for the final two outs of the game. Desch inherited a runner on third base but did what he’s done all season and worked out of the jam. Bourne’s Logan Hughes grounded into a 4-unassited-3 double play to end the game, and that was all she wrote for the 2025 All-Star festivities.
Overall, this game was an offense’s delight that showcased the incredible talent around the CCBL. In a game that featured eight home runs, 30 hits and 21 total runs, offense was certainly not at a premium.
Harwich’s Tre Broussard was named All-Star Game MVP for the East. The Houston outfielder went 3-for-3 on the day, scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs. Broussard came into Saturday's game hitting .299 and will be looking to carry the momentum of Saturday's performance into the rest of the summer.
Falmouth’s Antonio Morales was named as the All-Star Game MVP for the West. The Wake Forest outfielder went 2-for-2 on the day, drove in a run, scored a run and added a stolen base. Morales got to show off all that he can do: hit for contact, drive in runs in big moments and steal bases like there’s no tomorrow.
For now, that will close the curtains on the 2025 Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star weekend activities. The Harwich Mariners will host the festivities in 2026.
